Re: OSARE v0.09 Released
Monday, September 6, 2010 - 16:38

Well, if I were you, I'd rather not touch it :) I just mentioned them because you talked about MSVC. But (at least with the experiences I had), executables made with mingw are often way smaller than the ones that MSVC makes, they are bloated and dependent on a lot of MS features you don't really need.

Absolutely no idea if it may solve the vista issue or not.

Wow, that engine definitely rocks! Great idea with the normal and depth maps and shaders, it looks too cool to be true :) Unfortunately, it uses XNA..... Somebody needs to port it :)

Edit: in the FAQ of the website it says "There are plans for native network functions bindings and objects, but the priority right now is the cross-platform version.". Looking forward for it.

Edit2: Sorry for hijacking your thread pfunked, I stop it now!

Re: Let's make game content creation ridiculously simple
Thursday, August 19, 2010 - 16:30

You hit the nail, This is exactly what's missing in most open-source games. The reason is that it needs a huge manpower alone to create a game and creating quality tools for modding the game at least doubles the needed manpower. Unfortunately, manpower is (besides good art) the biggest missing thing in open-source game development.

As an aside: do you guys prefer a level-editor that is integrated within the game, or one that is a standalone app with probably a native GUI?
