it is a good idea to search for some other people to help you with the game.
for example one is good in programming, another one can do good graphics, also planning the game is a part for itself.
i planned a 3d platformer game like supermario 3d land/ world with the BGE.
but before i start this, i begin with a smaller game, that does not need so much game logic (more game logic = more programming), graphics.
i do this, because i am a beginner with 3d games too.
another reason for this is, that the bge is not so powerful at the moment but it is getting better. so i can wait a bit.
with my smaller game i can learn a bit more about the BGE and how to use, i can set up a simple character to make a playable game out of it.
later i want to concentrate on planning (which features to be added) and a bit on graphics (gimp, blender) and search help for other things like programming or sounds)
this helps if the game gets bigger and more complicated with a lot of features.
you can do a lot of different effects with blender, that is so great.
this effect pack contains preset blend-files too, you can change the settings of the particle effect and the smoke/fire simulation settings and the materials too to get different/greater results.
this looks great
i have an idea to make it more unique when someone thinks that it is too close to the inspiration.
in this case then you could change the color, for example into blue and green
i really like the second version with tops
(-: do not eat "BAD APPLE" :-)
and that would be a "must see" for steve jobs, but he is dead....

next you can make some street signs and street lamps if you want.
i improved the tileset a bit, now it fits to the 32x32 grid, so it is easy to use.
the ground tiles are now really tilable, it has now top, side, down, top-side and side-down.
i also added a new preview image, which shows the use.
you should replace the preview image and as second preview image you should use the image of the tileset.
i knew this before, but it is really good,
i used this for some texturepacks i submitted here.
i like this, but if you want credit, you have to choose another license, like cc-by-sa
first when saw this in the preview, i thought it was a lame tileset.
but when saw the preview in full size, i realized, that the style is something special, it looks good.
i like these thin black outlines and the blocky shadows around this.
it better to give the file a better name than just 1.png
what is your tileset size, is it 8x8 or 16x16?
http://opengameart.org/users/makrohn has some.
for example

don't forget my special effects i made with blender.
