see? you can do it if you try, also i remembered something else you can use, try to look into sprite sheets from the neo-geo age, cadillacs and dinosaurs for example has some good ones along with many games of that era, and you wont have to worry about licenses

You are looking for a pixel artist then, sorry but i cant help there, try the 2d forum, also there are many projects trying to redo the original Xcom, you should have a look at their assets.

Cant you use photoshop color replacement and saturation? that would be the easiest if they are stored as some kind of image (which i suppose is true)

I think you are missing the point Anonymous from above, he wants to do everything himself, so getting graphics from other place would only disturb the game due to lack of homogenity in graphics, also i really doubt selecting races will do little more than adding a tiny bit of variety, especially since it would involve doing portraits and models for each race, sex AND class. Too much work for just being able to select human, elf or wathever. Think its just one person working on it as a hobby, but i agree with the rest of your opinions. I also loved Arcanum.
