I prefer direct, personal job offers over "ads". It's probably enough if we make sure that reaching users (and browsing their art) is simple, assuming they want to.
Actually, we sorta brought it up when we uploaded the Abuse graphics.
I think it would be great if someone thought up a good format. My preference would be something that is extendable with arbitrary attributes and is easy to parse. JSON is (relatively) human-readable and many languages can read it into easily-manipulated objects and write it back, and it is freeform enough to allow you to add attributes as needed.

Isn't Zynga located in SF? :p
Personally I agree with Brandon and others; it's fine if moderated to serious offers, especially indie teams. OGA always had the position of not excluding commercial or closed-source development as long as they abide by the licenses (and certainly not if they contribute in return). That said, I don't want OGA to turn into a closed-source closed-content job-hunting board either.
"Most popular" helps, but at least on dA it leads to stuff like pin-ups and popular anime being placed very high (because even if people doesn't think it's objectively all that good, naked skin is still naked skin, right? This leads to clicks, silly as it is...). Daily Deviants are at least in theory better since only a few people are able to submit them (though other users can, and often do, suggest them).
As for grouping of artwork, this has been my major pet peeve more or less since the start of the site, so I hear you.
I think the reason we haven't yet uploaded more from various projects is a combination of being careful (perhaps overly so) of not stepping on anyone's toes and laziness. It's not like you have to be an admin in order to do this though; maybe we should encourage users to do this more?
Sounds like a likely driver bug(Linux?). I've never had any problems under Windows, but unfortunately I can't say the same for Linux (which generally has poorer-quality graphics drivers). YMMW.
If you want really lightweight, there should be plenty of C/C++ files meant to be included into your project for writing WAVs. Out of the "proper" libraries, I'd give libsndfile, libao, and PortAudio a try - probably in that order.
PortAudio hasn't had a new stable release for a few years but allegedly comes with audio generation examples.

Anyone up for designing this?

One scenario I imagine is the entrance to a temple being worn and broken but the innermost sanctums being largely untouched :)
Resident troll checking in.
*grunt!*
Agreed.

PCRE is a popular alternative for those who prefer C or easy binding to other languages.
EDIT: PCRE had C++ bindings made by Google in 2006 (pcrecpp) - they are now part of the distribution.
@Lamoot
Yes! Thanks - a bit disappointed that Alchemy didn't come up until the 3rd post...
