Nice work.  It could use more
Friday, December 20, 2013 - 21:03

Nice work.  It could use more modularity for use as a resizable solution, but I see a lot of work was put into parts of it.  Again, nice work.

Well, I was unable to find information about your project, so all I can say is good luck.  I am exiting college in less than two weeks, so I will be attempting to "go indie" as well... and I will be performing extensive job searches at the same time.  If you're looking to hire someone to help with a project, let me know. ;)

Well, for starters, you should consider using video format rather than a plain text page with a few screenshots.  You may also want to explain the process all the way to the end rather than abruptly quitting in the middle of the project.  I mean, what you made is very basic and incomplete.  It does not cover much of interest to someone who may want to make anime style faces.  It does not explain eye sockets, mouth structure, or even how to make a decent nose.  The worst part is you do not limit yourself to quads and your topology is, well, terrible.

We all have ideas.  Ideas are easy.

That said, why wouldn't RPG Maker work for you?  Stencyl is also pretty nice, but I would honestly prefer to use RPG Maker if my goal is to make a desktop game.  Both are extensible and easy to work with, but Stencyl is focusing more on HTML5 and Flash, while RPG Maker focuses on desktop applications.

shirish, Tiled is both freeware and free software.  It is freeware in the sense that it is free to use.  It is "free software" in the sense that you momented, because it gives you open source code.  That doesn't make it any less freeware.

Could you explain how the layers work?  What are all those boxes?

I'm confused, because VirtualFall actually thanked Jattenalle.  Is this a joke thread?

Nice work on the texture.

I have not dug into SDL yet, but I really want to.  I never used the SDL bindings, either.  PyGame looked well-put-together, but I could be wrong.

I have seen some nice Lua-driven SDL-powered games.

I wasn't able to view the video past the first few seconds, but what I saw looked impressive.  Keep working on the animations!

As far as professional work goes, it is within fair use to use your work in your portfolio.  Just don't post it on OGA as an asset submission. ;)

Send me a message when you get your site back together.  I'll check out the video again later in hopes of it actually loading. (Silly YouTube!)
