It was opensuse, and I think allacrost was either in the main, the games or the packman repository, all three being repositories that I enable immediately :)
I can go up to 2 mega bytes/s download speed and got good specs (core 2 duo, 2GB ram, nvidia graphics). It took about 10s here. I mean, it's not the end of the world, I'm just not used to wait 10s for a website ;)
Besides the 2D artist doing concept art for his own work, I think a very important place for concept art is to show what a 3D model should look like. Often times, the 2D artist has a good idea what the 3D models should look like (or the lead artist is a 2D guy), can draw a sketch of them and the modeler can then pick it up and model them. AFAIK, Most 3D modelers love to have some reference when they model.
This is an example of concept art made for that purpose (to just show how it should look like, as base for 3D models and icons) by our lead artist moOshiE.
I remember playing through it a few years ago, it was shipped with my distro. I played it for about an hour, until where a guy said "hey you can't go there, that's all for this demo" and I was like "too bad, it was fun". It is really an enjoyable game! I check its updates from time to time.

I second that, sounds like a useful shortcut to me.
I love the "I am using this" idea, it is great both for the artist (obvious) and the developer (gets exposure)
Way better than the previous website. But it takes a long time to load (and I have relatively fast connection).
Nice game, and you give it a very nice presentation.

Good post, I especially like the art trading idea, never thought of that!
