Re: [Solved] Warning for anonymous submissions to not forget ...
Friday, June 18, 2010 - 13:13

I didn't realize there was a really easy way to do this.  Fixed.

Okay, that works for me. I brought it up because I've had registered users accidentally make anonymous submissions in the past, and I wanted to make certain you knew you were submitting anonymously.

Thanks for contributing! :)

Ah, I saw the reply to the sword submission. I'm assuming you're the same person. Sorry to bother you. Carry on. :)

Hi! Excellent submission, but need attribution info. :)

Hello generous yet anonymous contributor. In order to fulfill the terms of the CC-BY-SA license, the people using this work must attribute it to you. Unfortunately, you weren't logged in when you uploaded this (something that we really need to make clearer, sorry), and we don't have your attribution info. If you have a login here, let me know, and I'll just associate it with your username. If you'd prefer not to, just a name or alias people can use when attributing you would be enough. If you truly wish to remain anonymous, we'll remove the CC-BY-SA license and just go with the GPL, which allows anonymity.

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble. :)

Bart

EDIT: In retrospect, there's no reason you can't voluntarily waive the attribution requirement of CC-BY-SA and still require the share-alike part. I'll leave the licenses as-is.

Re: Collecting links to other free "content" websites

I like the wiki idea, but we will need to have strong integration with our existing art content for there to be a point to it.  Also, we'll have to make certain that people don't add things to it that aren't necessasrily appropriate for OGA.  For instance, information about game projects should go in the Libre Game Wiki.  The LGW does its job well (and I'm a fan of the site personally), so I'd prefer to work with them rather than step on their toes.  :)

Have you considered pets, henchmen, or other allies?

It's worth reiterating that some of the resources listed here aren't suited for general use in open source games due to licensing restrictions on redistribution and commercial use.  On the other hand, if you're an indie dev looking for resources to use in a game, some of these may be extremely useful (particularly the First Seed Materials, which don't prevent you from modifying them or selling the game).

OpenGameArt can't vouch for the legality of using any of these resources in any particular type of project, so please read their terms closely before deciding whether to include them in your game.  What I can tell you is that if you use content that's released under a license that's not available here at OGA, there's a good chance that major linux distros such as Debian and Fedora will not include your project in their main distribution.

Pro tip:  If you can't read Japanese, there's a small and non-obvious "English" button in the top right hand corner of the First Seed page.  It took me a long time to notice it. :)

Peace,
Bart

I may be interested in sponsoring this.  Is there an IRC channel where we can have a live conversation?

Thanks!
