I could do that-- instead of having 'no nose' have the tiniest little nose graphic for the nose button with the label 'default'. Anime style for that could work very well, too.
I added in a bit of dithering and some refinement on your bigger eye, Spring, to smooth it out after the resize. Here's how it turned out:
Since LPC has something of a retro JRPG feel to it, I'm liking Spring's design for the eye. I'll put them in the creator and show you how they look. :D (Tomorrow, when I'm alive, probably.)
As to the nose... I like the idea of having the nose by itself, but I have no idea what a good way to represent the flat, nose-less default sprite of an LPC character. Maybe somethig that looks closer to an enlarged LPC head?
Or maybe a nose with an X through it. Or just an X. ... Gah. I don't know. Thoughts, opinions? UI really isn't my strength.
Here's the figures blown up for quick reference, if that helps!
Haha. I spent a few days studying a ton of different vintage-but-not UI setups, and when I made this I went "... ... ... That's it? Days of agonizing over a pixel box?! Aaaaugh!"
... The UI looks pretty good in practice, though. XP
I'd be interested in this as well. I'd also like to use markdown for forums and the art submission credits page. Imagine having a table with preview thumbnails when you credit the artists whose work you've used.
@Boom Shaka - Thank you so much! I am learning... in a cheaty, copy-heavy way. Slowly. ;)
In the meantime, this is funny:
I've got three "alt" bases now-- muscular, androgynous/teens, and pregnancy. The latter two are my new stuff I whipped up off the female base, while the 'muscular' one is an older walkcycle that never got any assets made for him. It's based off the man's sheet... but it goes off enough that the standard legs and torso pieces won't fit him. Poor guy.
However, I've gone through all three alt bases and added in all the options / accessories that will work. And... erm. The "muscular" options are... interesting.
My husband has decided that this one is a Gentleman Stripper.
This one actually makes a darn good looking gladiator. I might have to extend the base to swing animations. And make the poor man some pants.
Eventually, I plan to make all the major objects have a front, back, and side view. After I finish my character creator, I'll get back to my colony-sim game, and I want to be able to rotate and place craftable objects. I'd also like to make 'ruined' versions of the furnishings and wallpapers. So that's my plans for future LPC items.
It's great to see these all in one place! A few I don't believe were in my collection yet.
To make it more convenient, and so it can be expanded further in the future, I'm thinking of making a Git master repository for the non-character LPC assets. Something you'd be interested in seeing?
I totally cheat, with these sprites... I take the best animated stuff and I copy the techniques to other things, then tweak it until it looks right. I'm completely dependant on the Character Creator to test what I'm working on at various speeds and image resolutions... I wouldn't have been able to animate anything decently without it. I don't know how anyone else does this stuff.
On another note-- I've finally cleared up the issues with my server, and I've put a copy of the Character Creator online! A very buggy version, with buttons running off the page and the rendering button crashing the whole system, but it's up nonetheless! I'm going to spend a few days making it playable before I release the link to the public. :D

Okay, I lied. Here's the new eyes in action!
Before:
And after:
I really love them-- they go great with the style. I only wish that they were a little bigger, if that could be done easily?
Wow!!! Thank you, guys! This is really great!

This man is too sexy for his pants.

That looks really good! I love the red. It gives these things a lot more variety.
