Hmm indeed. There appears to be a tool called "MIDI2dmf" which will allow me to do such a conversion, but I'm not sure how well it works. I'll come back to you when I figure this out.
I do need something which fits those. But not through a sample library, but in a format native to the soundchip itself, either emulated or real. For example, .nsf, .sid or .vgm format :)
i have my doubts about 16x16tiles.png - while not ripped directly from the game, it's an obvious derivative work of SMB1. Not sure if I should keep it posted.
Added a "mini" 16x16 version, for world maps, etc.
Yes, I dubbed it the "Super Wonderful Palette" XD
It's a 16-color palette.
Hmm. I'd be interested in hearing what you can do ^^ if you feel like bothering with it
I guess so. I extended it a bit with a few extra pipes, also.

What I am looking for specifically, is a Sega Genesis soundtrack that places the SN76489 in a lead role rather than the YM2612 ^^

Yes, it was made by me.
"Modern 8-bit", or "Hybrid-chiptune" ^^
However I am looking for a composer who has actual mastery of the various sound chips. Do you?
