It is rather strange. So if a photographer takes his photo and says it is public domain then we can use it to create a CC0 pixel portrait of him? But we are not allowed to create a CC0 portrait of him based on our observations?
OR Does the photographer also needs his approval to make it CC0 or any other license? That might be a little problematic as there are many CC-BY-SA photos of celebrities retrieved from flickr pages of photographers.
a challenger?
I guess it wouldn't be as murky if it was based on an official PD image like this:

What if he/she is dead? or if his/her face is on a public domain photo?
Although not a nice thing to do, CC0 allows it. So what you want might be OGA-BY or CC-BY
@LDAsh his assets are still accesible via search function http://opengameart.org/art-search-advanced?name=MikeeUSA
It is a site limitation or design that the access to his profile page is restricted
xpm files can be opened with gimp
Leather textures have a non CC-BY license http://www.onlygfx.com/terms-of-use/
The other one has no license at all
Right, there is no licensing information. Moreover it looks like they are just aggregating home decoration related stock images.
So can you please use one of the textures on OGA (or any other texture with a verifiable license)
It is quite detailed
