It would be nice, if there was a way to tell whether the submission belongs to an audio category or not whenever the uploader chooses to use a picture (e.g. album cover) for the preview.

It is a pixel scaling algorithm but a bad example as it still won't fit with the pixelart shield
Edit: scale2x seems to be better
Probably because, he scaled it to match the size of the shield. You need to use a (scale) filtering that goes well with pixel art.
