Something I'd add here is that everyone's brain works a different way. I'm not good at drawing, painting or 3D modeling, but during the LPC I found I actually enjoyed and was decent at pixel art. Try lots of different styles/methods and eventually you'll find one that really resonates with you.
laetissima and I created these assets for a quick puzzle game we made in Python/Pygame. I can't say the code is *worth* sharing, but if anybody wants it, I'd be happy to give them a copy.
@xhrit: I'm really interested in your 'Turn Phases' system; I think it significantly contributes to the balance in PvP games.
