Thanks for the advice! I've added a static preview of the effects, they don't look as cool as animated but it's more attractive than the empty checkerboard :)
It doesn't, I'm sorry. The particles aren't really particles but objects with different properties and logic in order to do effects that particles wouldn't be able to do, and due to them being rendered into a .png spritesheet or .gif, it's not required to use particles.
You still can save the engine into the Pixel Fx Designer format to load it and make changes later.
