oh for sure, nothing had the hits like the NES.  I think having such a strong Arcade pedigree was kind of double edge sword of Sega with the Master System.  Lots of great arcade titles to borrow from, but it also made them a bit slower to produce the kind of deeper, longer-play, more home-console-centric titles that characterized the NES library almost from the start.

Still, as has been stated, the SMS Library does have a few surprises in store for anyone who cares to dig deep enough.

ps

stay tuned!  as much as I am trying to keep myself on task and not get distracted from my larger projects by twiddling more with this set, I do in fact have some more additions to it in the works!   It seems I just can't keep away :)

thanks for all the kind words!  Getting swell head over here ;)

It's game library aside, I'll say the Master System's palette was quite a bit of fun to work with.

Very bright, seems almost tailor made for these kind of kid friendly 'blue sky' type games.

Weak in some areas and quite a few near redudant colors.  Probably not the exact 64 colors one would chose, but not too bad.  Definitely a good bit easier to work with than the NES palette.

super cute!  I love it!

oh no!   A friend just pointed out that technically I submitted my entry a day early!

So sorry, I didn't meant to cheat.  I didn't even check the start time of the challenge, I just assumed that it was live once the link went up!

No worries, I have another 'Missing Link' project started so if Muckety Mudskipper can't compete, I'll try again with that one.

oh, forgot to mention, this

oh, forgot to mention, this is not showing up in the search for 'Missing Link' challenge entries:

https://opengameart.org/art-search-advanced?field_art_tags_tid_op=and&fi...

If you meant to enter in the challenge, you need to add Challenge and "Missing Link" to the tags.

Yeah, I see what you mean.   If you just split the existing 'Pilot Select' trap into three the result would be three very short tracks.   To make it work I guess you'd have to split it up and then expand each of the new tracks a little bit.   It is just for a very short sequence (how long will most player spend in 'Select a Pilot'?) so they wouldn't have to be too long.   Well, that was just my two cents, no need to change anything, it should work great as is.

Dogfight tracks sound great, love the build up at the start of cosmic dogfight 1.  Sounds exactly right for the start of a jet plane shoot'em up level.
