Not yet, I didn't think it was quite good enough to warrant it's own submission yet. But maybe I'll do a little more tweaking and maybe a pass at converting it to NES or DB32 palettes and then submit it as a proper deravative work. I was also thinking that some corner and vertically oriented pieces would be cool to have.
I'm just nervous about doing too much tweaking because then my programmer brain will force everything onto a nice even grid and suck all the life out of it! ;)
I like this alot! With some tweaking, I thought it might make a really good 16x16 cloud tileset. So I had a go at it and here's the result along with a little sample usage. It's basically just the same art, shifted around a bit and flipped both horizontally and vertically. Hope I didn't butcher it too badly!
@MedicineStorm: More amazing stuff!! The map set alone is mind-blowing! It really shows how you can make some really custom or 'not tiled' looking stuff by just adding a few embelishments to a tile set!
So one suggestion as you're putting these together, since you're packaging them up into .zip files, any thoughts on maybe dropping a small readme crediting Denzi with a link to his site and this page in there? plus (maybe more importantly) a copy of the appropriate license? I guess it's just a pet peave of mine, but I really like it when art packages include that stuff the same way source code repos traditionally do. It can make it alot easier to trace back what license something is after you donwload it. It also ensures than anyone who has a copy of the archive also has a copy of the license terms.
I like it! I don't know what the 'spider web' like lines are called. I mean I don't know if that style has a specific name, but I like it! It gives the image a very abstract quality. Is that just an effect created by the brush you used for the hills/mountains? The only con I'd have is that the style doesn't carry through everything in the image. But then maybe it's better than way....
These are awesome! Really love the look!
Any plans for characters to go with it? Just curious...
ah ah! So that is the official C64 palette then?
The cave scene in particular does look straight out of C64 land!
nice! be a great backdrop for a credit or intro text sequence.
Any interest in sharing the .PSD or .XCF file? Might be useful for someone creating a derivative work to have the layers all seperated out.
These are great! Great example of how you can build something very large, with plenty of unique detail out of just a handful of tiles.
