Skeleton Warrior

Low poly 3D model rigged and animated for use in pre-rendered 2D sprites.  Because I'm only using them for small renders, they're not "finished" for use in 3D games (no UV maps, the mesh could be better optimized, etc).

Comes with these animations:

  • Stance (4 frames)
  • Walk (8 frames)
  • Attack (4 frames)
  • Cast (4 frames)
  • Block (2 frames)
  • Hit and Die (6 frames)
  • Aim Crossbow (4 frames)

Python script included to render in 8 directions.

Includes the sword listed here http://opengameart.org/content/skull-bastard-sword which is a derived from the original concept sketch by Misha http://opengameart.org/content/bastardsword001-concept

I love your contributions, im a Blender user myself and i'm envious about some of your skills. The meshes are well made and the animations are just right!

I hope you dont mind, i changed the file to use CatRom filtering and made a small node setup to control the saturation and contrast. I think the details show up better ;)

That is how it looks like:

Thanks Grandmaster B. I'm a bit embarrassed to post some of these because they have concessions not usually made for 3D games (e.g. manifold meshes and UV mapping).

My RPG is a very dark Diablo style game and I'm not (currently) using dynamic lighting, so that's why my renders are so dark. Your mod is a great neutral-lighting version. I should probably make and post my models that way and then darken them just for my own game.

Theres nothing to embarrassed about in your models, they are great! They are also suiteable for 3D! Anyways, artwork for games is mostly about faking not about accurancy. If something look nice, that is it!

If anything, i want to give you an advise on rendering, please dont use the "Gauss" anti-aliasing filter anymore, Catmull-Rom or Mitchell-Netravali is much better (You'll find the setting in the "Render" tab in the "Render" buttons).

Ah, I never paid attention to the AA filter settings. Gauss was on my default scene and I never touched it.

I tested a full sprite sheet with Gauss vs. Mitch vs. CatRom and Catmull-Rom definitely works best for the output I need. Thanks for the tip! I updated my Skeleton uploads here with the new versions.

Can you provide an improved version for 3D games? Skeleton warriors seems to be quite popular in RPGs.

Anon, I think about making a good 3D skeleton warrior at least once a week. I have to stop myself. If I chase after high quality 3D art I'll never finish Flare.

But.... one day.

Cool art! Just I now need to learn how to render all animations on a top-down view :D

Is it possible to get a tile image uploaded with all the postures?  The python script doesn't work for me in Blender.

Thanks.

The script fails with the error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "F:\t\skeleton_0-1.blend\render8dirs.py", line 1, in <module>
ImportError: No module named 'Blender'
Error: Python script fail, look in the console for now...

Is there any way to get a FLARE tileset for this model?

Check the Flare Game github here for the skeleton sprite sheets:
