Desert moon background (layered, looping)
Yet another desert background. This was really an experiment in pushing the 14 colour Super Dead Merc core palette past its breaking point. However the result might not be too useful on some modern screens when zoomed right in (although looks OK on my phone as it turns out), so I also made a version with less aggressive dithering.
The near and far dune layers repeat horizontally.
The dunes are based on an ansimuz painting of underwater sand, from here (CC0): https://opengameart.org/content/sideview-fantasy-patreon-collection
The planet is derived from Azuria by Cougarmint (CC-BY): https://opengameart.org/content/azuria-a-2-d-ringed-planet
The foreground tiles in the mockups are from the Space Merc Redux set (part of "Super Dead Merc" which is spread across about a dozen of my submissions and doesn't really have consistent naming): https://opengameart.org/content/space-merc-redux-platform-shmup-tileset
UPDATE: added "Ditherwank Canyon", another exercise in abuse of the Super Dead Merc palette. And another desert scene, although a midwest canyon/mesa type environment this time. Could even be on the same moon; just use the same "sky" layer. Lots of equally niche variants to choose from. It's derived from a background in the Superpowers art set (CC0).

Amiga / DOS game gfx vibes from these and I love it!
Looks great!
A couple of sad little action mockups. 1990 vintage run'n'gun!
