And about your question, I'm new using Krita too, but here color's qty is the other name for bit depth, and the default settings for new documents is 8 bit depth, in other words, 256 colors, so if you have the default settings yet, don't have to do anything at all.
Last, if you are interested in, here are some useful workspaces and brushes.
