I tried to do something for you. I a programmer so expect programmer art. If you say it would do (after all its placeholder), I can create two other animations as well. Prepared in inkscape thus should size to your needs.
Interesting method. At first I couldnt figured it out how the first one works. After thinking it carefully I got it. Nice job on using 4th dimension to solve the problem. But the same is done before, sorry to deliver bad news.
@Anonymous: well I was thinking to write a similar software, procedural image/texture creation is a topic I had studied before. However, the problem with this case is its artistic representation. Realistic planets dont look fancy. But I might still go ahead and write a software that will allow to design planets easier. I wish I had more time.
I generally rename downloaded file to contain author name and if its cc-by-sa or gpl I add this restriction as well. I generally treat cc-0 as cc-by unless author name is nowhere to be found.

@Pompei2: animated 2D texture is nothing but a 3D texture, using 6 dimensions you can easily cover that.
Looks pretty nice, after my qualification I might be interested in creating a game out of these assets ;) But probably I will need more graphics.
Thanks dude.
I think its time to write something after the tenth time listening it. But I cannot find a way to describe how awesome it is.
It has one flaw, too short. I was enjoying it, then it just finished. May be I should put it to loop and listen forever :)

BTW that software looks really nice.
