Oooh, yes, I like this thread. I could make up ideas all day.
Unification Challenge Take two or more art submissions done by other people and make an expansion that helps them work together as if they were one submission.
Entire Game Challenge Choose a type of asset and then make everything you'd need for one game with that asset type. For example, all the graphics for a run and jump or all the sounds for a platformer.
Locale Challenges This would be a series of challenges where the assets would be inspired by a specific locale. Persia, Africa, Egypt, Japan ect.
Elemental Challenges Like Eternal Ice, but for other elements. I'd love to see an underwater or lava challenge. We could even get into sub elements like life or darkness.
Game Type Challenges A series of challenges for different types of games. Run and jump, side scroller, beat 'em up, shoot 'em up, breakout, block games, rpg, adventure, first person shooter, fighting, ect.
Flexible Challenge Make an asset that isn't a background that works well for multiple types of games. Have preview images for each game type. For example, a sprite that could be used for a side scroller, a fighter and an adventure game.
Sara the Mascot Make a submission based on Sara, like an attack sprite or a theme song.
I also really like Redshrike's expansion idea. I would have suggested it myself if he hadn't.
I'll admit, I'm drawing a blank on this one. My best idea is to do things that are often censored, like a nude base or guns or something, I don't have any ideas that I really want to do. I think I'll give this a pass. Good luck everyone else!
Well, if we're talking about iconic, monsters are often pretty iconic. Like Cactars or Dragon Quest's slimes. Maybe we should come up with some really fun looking easy and super hard monsters. I don't have any ideas at the moment though.
I think making people iconic isn't the way to go. Blackmage, fighter, ect. all became iconic because they're classes that showed up in many of the games. I suppose we could come up with some different classes, like theif and summoner, mix it up a little.
BTW, Redshrike, your guy is cool. A villian with a hat makes me happy.
Actually, I feel a bit like I cheated because this is an edit of existing tiles. I'm really glad everyone likes it though. Thank you so much! Next time I will enter some original tiles.
Well, I don't agree that the green specifically makes it look more like ice, but the edit does fix some of the contrast issues of the sprite and adding some hue shift towards any color is good. As for adjusting things with processing, it was because this isn't my sprite. I just wanted to get the idea across quickly, not fix it myself. Either way, I need to not treat this forum like Pixelation, sorry Redshrike. It's obviously an interesting sprite or else we wouldn't be talking about it this much. ^_^
Add green? No way, if anything it needs to be more towards purple. I think it's the dark outlines that's making it look like metal though, it reads as something very opaque. Up the brightness and saturation, lower the contrast and it looks a lot more like ice.
I believe I've fixed the forest tiles. Sorry it took me so long, I got infected with a virus that was hard to get rid of and took out my internet as a parting shot.
Oh hey, thanks! It's hard to tell how something is going to turn out until you get an actual in game look. Speaking of which, that tree line doesn't look so good anymore. I've got implied lines everywhere it's creating a grid that I thought I got rid of. I'll take care of it as soon as I can, but it probably won't be until monday. BTW, you should be able to use more of surt's tiles like the well and the bushes. That should give the map a little more variety. Also, that pine tree is meant to tile vertically as high or as short as you want.

Oh, sorry I wasn't clear. The file is already updated.

Don't you think?

New forest done. Snow will be harder since it's a deciduous forest.
