Fantastic post, I'm printing it and keeping it as reference!
I do agree with Tap, every kind of artists can be taken advantages of. It becomes hard sometime to give someone something you built, be it a story, a code module or a drawing, knowing that they might just act like it was "the easiest thing in the world" to do. I think respect for all artist is VERY important and it goes both ways: be respectful of all artist that invest time in a project and act in a way that show that you also deserve respect for your own work. No part of making a game is "easy" or "simple" or less valuable then an other. It's all hard work and hours of investment both into learning and into doing the work.
I also can relate to TAP as off his comment about holding others to the same high standards as himself. As much as I like to build a team and work with every kind of artists, if I feel that someone is not giving their all on the project, I don't feel it's ok to put their work in. I find it unfair to the other artists (me included) to leave something of less then good quality teint everything else. Poor sound doesn't do justice to great graphics, story, code... A buggy game is an insult to the hours of work put in by the other artists... it is the same for everything.
