Hey folks!
We've had a big influx of art lately, which is awesome, but we need to make sure the archive remains clean and useful for people using it, which means I need to tighten the the guidelines on what constitutes art that is useful for games. If the art you post doesn't meet these guidelines, admins will leave a comment and give you a few days to fix the issue or respond with a plan to fix it, if it will take more time than that. So, without further ado, here are the guidelines.
If you have unanswered questions, please read the FAQ or contact us if that does not solve it.

Seeing as how traffic is starting to pick up lately, I've decided that it's time to get serious about user interface design and start being consistent with all the professional file download sites up there. Specifically, as an internet user, when I go somewhere to download a file, I expect to be bombarded with a barrage of misleading download links to shovelware, malware, and other crap I don't want. The real download link, as we all know, should be small and off in some non-obvious place. This is a guiding principle of the design of modern download sites, and it's time I stopped ignoring it. Here's my latest design mockup (click the image to enlarge):
The OpenGameArt.org staff hopes that you enjoy this new feature!
Happy April Fools' Day! :)

We're changing our site policy slightly with respect to anonymous comments.
Since it's very easy to be rude when hiding behind an anonymous account, site policy from here onward will be to delete anonymous comments that we find impolite or trollish. There's been a debate for a long time about whether to allow them at all, and we've decided in the past that there are a lot of anonymous users who add value to the site with their comments, and I don't want to force those people to register. As the site grows, we may need to reevaluate that, but for the time being anonymous comments will be allowed.
Please note that I can't be in the business of policing every single comment to reach the site. If I miss a rude comment by an anonymous user, please contact me through the contact form and leave a link to the page with the offending comment, and I'll take care of it.
Thanks,
Bart

Edit: It's been confirmed that this is definitely not happening.
Hey folks!
If anyone can help out with this, I'd appreciate it. Given the reaction to the recent halt on Terraria development, I suspect it might be possible to gather a "liberation fund" to pay the Terraria devs to open the source and content of Terraria. In order for this to be even remotely possible, we need the terraria devs to at least be aware of the idea.
I've tweeted about it here and here, from the OGA twitter account. Any retweets or other promotion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Bart

I wrote a blog entry on FreeGamer about the MegaUpload shutdown, and how we might be able to get something good out of it. It's probably preaching to the choir here on OGA, but if you're interested, have a look:
