2D Sidescroller Hero

I'm still missing a good 'general-use' 2D sidescroller hero that's bigger than 16x16 pixels. More something like 32x64 or 48x96 pixels. Preferably something neutral that doesn't hold a gun or something for mario-like games.

Of course it should have a spritesheet with at least a walking, standing and casting/shooting animations.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  There are the characters made for Ultimate Smash Friends, which are certainly in the size range, but they may not be "general purpose" enough, in design for animations; of them, Surge is probably the closest.  I suppose that one of them could possibly be adapted to it if nothing else.
