ChaosEsque-Anthology: Opensource/Free FPS standalone mod of Xonotic released.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/chaosesqueanthology/
I released a standalone mod of Xonotic.
It is fully free/opensource with all the code GPL, and all the media GPL or CC0 CCBY or CCBYSA (all free/open compatable). The source is included and the mediasource for the added content is included.
It's packaged as an .iso as .zip won't go over 2gb on 32bit systems. Also so you can burn to DVD.
I modeled, and added many weapons (including medeval weapons), added many vehicles, coded spellcasting, foliage for the maps, fun things like bumpers and baloons (which rocket you around if you have the mutator enabled). I made around 40something maps (all gpl) for the mod, in addition to the regular xonotic and nexuiz (gpl) maps included. There are also monsters added (thanks to mario, plus I extended that).
I also used some items from open game art.
OSARE: Skeleton and Minotaur.
OldBook (spell book)
Old Paper texture.
Some CCBYSA songs.
Mario added a spider and a ogre/barbarian monster using opengame art assets.
I'm very glad you're around.
You can also build buildings.
So basically you can do as you wish in this 3d world, and there are many mutators where you can customize your game.
There is even a colorwar option: If you die you join the team of the person that killed you (or if in non-teamgame you become their pants/shirt color).
It adds alot of things, and many more maps and other things I and others made (also more texture packs I made).
The weapons are also more "realistic" in damage and other ways (they kill you quick, guns jam, rockets fail, there is muzzle rise) but still have all the futuristic and medeval weapons.
There are also aeroplanes and such, and mounted weapons.
Be sure to read the movement commands:
Xonotic: Chaos-Esque Anthology
Keyboard Controls
Note: When creating or editing maps in NetRadiant for this game disable “Use alternative texture projection” in Preferences>Settings>Brush to keep full compatibility with the pre-fabricated map sections found in data/maps/sc_tiles.zip
To spawn vehicles, mounted guns, turrets, monsters, and hazards randomly in the map go to Multiplayer > Create > Mutators and enable their respective options.
To start a game go to Multiplayer > Create , select a match type, a map, and press “Start Multiplayer!” or “Play”
Vehicles & Mounted Guns

Banned for being religious? I cannot see a reason to ban someone in there.
Religious, anti-feminist, general trolling, spamming, attacking specific people directly, the list goes on.
Just google the name MikeeUSA for a number of reasons he's not welcome in the Xonotic forums.
As long as he does nothing illegal according to the law it should be fine, he can have any opinion.
Being reiligious is still considered a positive thing for most people for example.
Well, pedophilia isn't legal.
His religious views aren't so much the issue, as spamming them all over a forum dedicated to a shooting game.
Do you have proof he does pedophilia? Accusing people of something that is not true can also be a crime.
This very thread has proof enough, he strongly advocates sexual relations with young girls.
He can advocate it, but as long as he does not do it where it is illegal, he is not committing a crime.
Hitler advocated the genocide of millions of Jews but didn't kill any himself, doesn't make him a saint.
Legal issues aside, the Xonotic forum admins reserve the right to ban anyone suspected of trolling, no need to swear vengeance upon them for doing their job keeping the forums clean and free of propaganda.
So he was banned arbitrarily, you can do that on your own platform, but you cannot claim he did something illegal which is the reason he got banned, when this is actually not the case.
Never stated he did anything illegal in the first place... His spam is what got him banned, as I was hinting at with his wall of text.
Well you can claim anything you want, but without evidence it is not worth much.
PS: What we do here could also be considered spam, depends how you want to define it.
The only thing I claimed is that he promotes pedophilia, and there's plenty of evidence for that.
You're right though, this is spam and it's getting out of hand.
Mikee is obviously sick, but this is his thread, he's free to say whatever he wants here, just don't bring that propaganda to the Xonotic forums and cry about it when banned.
The point is those people banning him are acting arbitrarily, even promoting pedophilia is not a crime, the political left promotes this as well for example. Being sick is also not a crime.
What is worse spreading propaganda or censoring? Isn't censorship also a form of propaganda?
@MarioSMB Mario we don't understand this. What is it about our mod that you dislike so much? Why is it a pile of junk, as was said?
In my country, this may be different for you, when a motor vehicle needs a new piece we go to the junk yard and choose a piece. We are grateful that junk yards exist, so we don't understand the derisive opinions about piles of junk, should our mod be as such.
Is it customary in your country to just get a new vehicle if the bonnet gets dented? That seems very.... how should I say.... explotive of the labour of the people of countries like my own. While we are happy to build what is needed, waste and avarice is very negative to us.
Why would people dislike our mod based on who is writing the code. It doesn't make any sense??? People are entitled to have religious beliefs and to worship other religions, no? Why hate a thing produced by someone because they believe in a religion? Must we all adopt your religion, whatever it is, and then you will like us? What if we refuse?
We don't understand this thinking so much. It puzzles us.
We even try to accomidate your wishes: you have trouble knowing how to use mod, we make documentation tab. You want menu, we ask you how you want it designed and what button you want pressed for it to come up.
But then you spit in our face and speak in such a way against our mod because of the closely held religious beliefs of a developer.
Why?
Makes no reason! A man and his work are seperate things!
If anyone missed it in all this talk, we have new version. version 103. Happy Christmas!
Release 103 brings some new additions and bugfixes right in time for Chistmas:
New weapons: Three new LightSabres - Red, Green, Blue, each with own handle style and different stats.
New monster: Ninja Assassin. Buildables: recruitment posts placed in shrines will recruit Ninja Assassins (about 15 grain needed for each, 1 housing).
Improvements to ambient temp system, Improvements to freeze/paralyse.
Bug fixes. Addition of manual-ctf-flag capping option (must manually bring
flag back to base if enabled). New music for ArenaAutomatica (AKA: AutoPlayArena ]|[)
Settings>Input documentation added to.

You're the one suggesting anything to do with crime.
Censorship in this context is the blocking of irrelevant repeated garbage (AKA spam), and while you might call it a form of propaganda, doesn't make his spam any more justified.
It especially doesn't belong in a forum dedicated to a first person shooter game with no ties to real life or political issues.
@MarioSMB
As long as it is not a crime or against the rules, there is no reason you have to delete anything or ban someone.
You still did not bring evidence of spam so bad that it had to be deleted or the person banned, you just make claims and repeat that, producing spam yourself.
I could not find serious spam from MikeeUSA, maybe someone deleted the evidence.
Indeed, it's been deleted, so I guess you're right, this guy is a saint with no justification for banning... Great logic there. Maybe I'll grab a screenshot next time he posts his mod in every single category in the forums.
I'm not the one who bans his duplicate accounts or deletes his spam posts anyway, I'm merely letting him know why, to avoid his threats towards the admins of the forums.
As for why I called Mikee's mod a pile of junk: Because it is; assets from all over the place thrown into a clashing piece of unplayable art.
Also because he keeps claiming he's better than everyone else and that his ugly mod is superior:
<gnu> Mario: I pwn all of you in development
/
@MarioSMB
Is not a rusted engine that runs everyday doing the work an engine is to do superior to a beautiful chromed engine that sits in a warehouse doing nothing?
Your claim that it is unplayable seems suspect: we play it every day. Now there is documentation so you can learn the commands used for the advanced features and it will thus be playable. We documented for you Mario: you noted that some things were hard, but there were commands that make it easy in for years. So now you can read and know too, like us!
Why should we follow Xonotic development way of just things that look the same and very few of them? Remember we have over 130 weapons from different eras: Medieval, Modern, Futuristic. Same for mounted weapons. Same for maps. Same for buildable / generated cities. We have full sets, while Xonotic has one set. We can afford variety because there are so many things.
We use opensource assets from everywhere: that is the power of opensource. It really speeds development, and we are looking to have fun, not impress some boss somewhere with some bauble on a CV letter.
Why does this anger you? In our mod you have whatever possibilities you can want, and if your computer is too slow to run grenade fragmentation just turn it off or set the amount of fragments to a lower number or set the time over which they are released higher to spread them out over more frames.
Nexuiz's goal was to be like Unreal Tournament 1999. Our mod follows these plans. Just like UT there are various different themes you can play.
We would like to know why it is that Xonotic lacks a foliage system, a city generation system, a change from day to night system, a buildable buildings system, capturing and jailing other players, mounted machine guns (etc), ambient temperature, bumpers, baloons, and spikes, flooding map with water , oil, energy liquid, lava, methane if you wish, brawling, drunkenness, blinding, spells, potions. Why, why don't you have those things?
We have them.
Why doesn't Xonotic?
We have to be honest: we like our mod abit more than normal Xonotic. And maybe this will not sit well with the new generation of Xonotic: Divverent named the mod. Our dev consulted him at the begining and he suggested chaos-esque in homage to chaosUT mod for unreal tournament 99. He also was glad to help with explaining how to code things. Same with Lord Havoc. Same with Samual. Same with you.
We also, however, didn't replace all his code declaring "we know a better way to code!". We also don't go announce we're moving engine after Lord Havoc helped add so many features Xonotic wanted into his engine. We don't spit in the face of our friends who helped us and scorn their contributions. We accept contributions gladly and, as someone once said, the answer to all feature requests in this mod seems to be "Yes" :P
And to be honest, whether you like it or not, we like you Mario for your great coding work. You do things, which is alot more than others.
Anyone can say "This should be done this way" or "there is a better way" or "Oh it's so easy I could do it in seconds". The truth is: we actually did it, Xonotic people of today did not. Simple concepts can seem quick in the mind but take years to complete when one actually goes and does the thing.
We did the thing. We didn't simply talk. We did. Just like you: when you wanted monsters you eventually just did it yourself. When you want something you make it and then you have it.
And we like what we made, just as we liked what Divverent and friends made. It is very fun.
Perhaps one day you'll see the value in a junk yard ;)

Who is "we"
@MarioSMB
The Team.
So how do you all like the game?
Is the Info tab documentation in v103 and improvement, do you now know how to use the features and such? Have you had some fun matches?
Are there people who like the mod? What is their opinion? Any lan matches? XvX building sessions and assaults on each other's cities and bases?
Are there people that dislike the mod? Are there people who simply dislike that the mod exists? Who are they? Would they like to come say some words to me? I noticed some EDH (or ehd?) guy was quite steamed and wanted me to be arrested, he criticized the mod and made fun of it, but I haven't seen anything from him. I wonder why he doesn't confront me in person? He seems to wish me harm, shouldn't I be in a position to return the favor? Isn't it only fair?
Why is it, that some get so angry at traditional ancient and correct beliefs? Why is it that they use the armies and navys and airforces they control to stamp such out all over the world. What if there is turnabout, one day? Will they complain? Isn't turnabout fair-play?

Any thoughts?
@MarioSMB
Just a thought: why would you think that I wouldn't think that my mod is the best, given that since I develop it: it is tailored to me and obviously would have all the things I would want in a game in it?
Isn't it a truism that from my view it would be the best???
I want it to be the very best, like no game was before.
I also want my own misty.

From your view, maybe, but that logic doesn't hold when asking for my thoughts on it.
At this stage, you and your team are too toxic to rationally discuss possible improvements.
@MarioSMB
What do you mean by that?
You ask for something, it gets coded and put in.
You mentioned a problem with knowing what and how to use the additional features, documentation was written on the double and put in.
You need to look beyond what people say (banter) and look at what they do.
You ask for a feature it gets done. How are we being toxic to you?
The only hold-up on the menu you wanted for the multitool is what button do you want pressed to bring it up (is there an intuitive one?), and how do you want it to look.
How about this: you or your friend put up a server running X:CEA (iso version), symlink the data dir to an http:// folder so people can dl the stuff, and name it CHAOSCHAOSCHAOSCHAOSCHAOS? Then you can chat with nicer people while interacting with the mod; this will be an extension of the team if they like the mod and thus the team will be less toxic. Now if they don't like the mod: moral enemies from now untill forever.
Be a bro.
Aren't you part of the Team infact: you coded the monsters system, you helped with other systems, you suggested the documentations panel etc...
xontemp20161228233341-00.jpg 467.8 Kb [0 download(s)]
It's a funny thing about the monsters and pretty much all contributions to Xonotic; You say we do nothing, but when we mention the great features that have been added since the version you based your mod on, you go ahead and rip them right away and go back to saying we've got nothing... At this point, it's hardly worth mentioning anything Xonotic has, because it'll just become a half-assed backport in your mod.
I like the idea of your mod, but it just does so many things wrong or poorly, with no interest in improving them in good ways. As you say, discussions just turn into banter and it feels like no progress is made in the right directions.
"You ask for something, it gets coded and put in." -That is not how open source development works, usually you have an online version control repository where others can look at the code and make pull requests, this does not seem to exist for chaos-esque anthology:
https://sourceforge.net/p/chaosesqueanthology/code/ref/master/
It will soon become an unmaintainable project, if it is not already the case.
It's far beyond the maintainability point, only reason it's holding itself together at all is because he spends a lot of time patching pipes and making sure it doesn't explode.
If you still need proof of my claims, take a look at this monster of a file: http://chaosesqueanthology.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=chaosesq...
Actual line of code here:
if(self.owner.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate.subordinate)
Why is he using floats for integers all the time? Or is it something I do not understand?
Integers don't exist in QuakeC (we fake it in newer Xonotic releases).
Haters are going to hate,
but there is nothing the can do,
short of running you through.
Chaos-Esque Anthology is built on a solid base.
This solid base was realized many years before Mario came aboard, and before Duion was creating content. It was created through the diligent efforts of DivVerent, in full appreciation of the future utilization of said foundation.
There is no surprises in Chaos-Esque. The road-map was communicated to the head Xonotic developer at the very start: in fact much of it was feature requests made of him which he did not have time or inclination to complete during that period.
There will be no "collapse" or "unmaintainable" of the Xonotic Chaos-Esque code: the developers are intimately acquainted with it. The project has been going on fine for 5 years without a peep from anybody. Any claims to it's imminent demise are simple libels from those not acquainted with the project, or complete fools.
Why can't people just enjoy the mod for what it is? Why all the complaints about the code: the code is _NOT_ incorrect, and it does _NOT_ crash as far as our testing.
It does what it is supposed to do, it does not waste cycles, it does not fail (as far as our testing).
If we recoded it some "nice" way, that would take hours and hours of testing to make sure that "nice" way doesn't fail, nor take longer than the previous very static way.
We do the things we do for a reason.
Rule 1: _NEVER_ trust quakeC.
Rule 2: Nope, anything complex does NOT properly compile across different QC compilers!
Rule 3: Just use variables, for loops, and if-thens. Anything else and you're walking into ... differently ... interpreted ... territory.
QC!
If you're going to boast about your mod being superior, you should at least expect some nitpicking and criticism...
While it doesn't crash to the best of your knowledge, it most certainly does waste resources. Even the best computers run extremely slowly, not just because of QC or the high poly models.
This is a product of poor implementation, and a prime of example of why "just doing it" without planning for such crazy expansion is bound to fail (not in the exploding kind of way, but in a way that every new thing you add to it requires doubling the overhead).
Not to mention the code duplication beyond imagination... I mean, come on, 35 thousand line code files? That's bigger than the entirety of vanilla Xonotic's codebase after it's been parsed, and a subject of horrible code duplication, all of which adds up to a huge progs file, surprised you haven't already reached GMQCC's limits...
Oh, and for the record, your code quality is the reason you can't use GMQCC (even the version included) for everything.
It should be possible even with your code scale to clean it up a bit (and probably fix the use of -std=fteqcc), but it wasn't a minor tweak, so I'm not sure what it requires entirely.
@MarioSMB
>Oh, and for the record, your code quality is the reason you can't use GMQCC (even the version included) for everything.
What are you talking about?
GMQCC is what is used.
If I reach a limit I will hack GMQCC as I've hacked FTEQCC and Q3Map2 in the past. There is no stopping this train.
32k (more like 100k, amirite) source code files just show you how much work has been done by _M... E_
You can complain all you want. Riot and cry. But I did allready way more than you will before either of us die.
The only real code replication is with the weapon system anyway, which is fine (each weap has it's own code file) and is how Div0 set it up for me when I asked him about it in the Nexuiz days. The rest is just... alot of features.
But hey, people can go use some other mod that has all the features I made...
you know... when you all get on to coding it the "proper" way.
(3 min of parsing strings later... per map load)
There are people who talk, and people who do.
From the people who talk you will get unfilled dreams, even a decade later.
From the people that do: you will never truly know what you have gotten because they have not the time to tell you all of it... but you'll have alot.
For _ANYONE_ that wishes to enjoy some doing: http://sourceforge.net/projects/chaosesqueanthology/files/latest/download
Best way to see what's what.
"That's bigger than the entirety of vanilla Xonotic's codebase"
Yes. ChaosEsque Dwarfs Xonotic because the last number of years have been put to good productive use on this side of the isle
"That's bigger than the entirety of vanilla Xonotic's codebase"
All we can say is: Damn Straight
You heard it right from the horses' mouth:
ChaosEsque additions surpass the entire code-base of vanilla Xonotic.
You can decide what you want, public. The wolf or the dog.
I guarantee you that the dog will be helping you way more than the ancestor animal (however sleek he may be).
A single file being bigger than the codebase just shows how unoptimized your code is, not how superior it is.
And last time I checked, you still need FTEQCC for your menu code.
@MarioSMB
>And last time I checked, you still need FTEQCC for your menu code.
Nope. GMQCC compiles it fine. In english atleast. Took awhile to spot that bug.
FTEQCC is used to check the code and compile the alternate-language stuff. The GMQCC bug about the alternative languages was reported to DivVerent years ago and was likely fixed a day or two after once he reported it to Grey. He said it was a bug.
Whatever early version of GMQCC is being used has always had this problem with the setup but it wasn't noticed since it worked fine with english. It's probably not even set up to compile the alt-language menu stuff (an oversight) but FTEQCC is in the makefiles.
>A single file being bigger than the codebase just shows how unoptimized your code is, not how superior it is.
So many more features that you cannot boast of... because your Xonotic lacks that single file bigger than your codebase. (And many more!)
Everyone: One ___SINGLE___ file (amonst many) in the ChaosEsque codebase is claimed to be larger than the __ENTIRE__ Xonotic code base. We were NOT lying when we said we did alot of work constantly for the last few years.... while Xonotic just refactored it's code for no reason a few times.
Straight from the horses mouth!
Mario: we have the features, Xonotic doesn't. You can talk all you want. ALL DAY, about whatever.
That code obsoletes every single thing that you guys are doing.
And it did it YEARS ago.
And DivVerent knew ALL about it and didn't tell you :).
Think of that!
Nice tank.... shame Xonotic lacks such things... but such things require describing such a thing in some way and how it interacts with the world... perhaps via a code file of some sort....
Nice spell, creating a pillar of fire, unfortunate for Xonotic implementing some sort of "file" that describes the action of willing such a thing into the game world... well it would be far too decadent to waste such a precious resource as lines on a page!
A city you say! Why we would have to describe the parameters with which to construct such a thing, and someone would have to model all the tens, hundreds of buildings! Far too much USELESS work when we can...
Talk....
about it for years on end!
etc.
etc.
etc.

@MarioSMB
While "you"(Xonotic etc) talked, I did.
I coded. I modeled. Etc.
There is absolutely nothing you, Duion, or anyone can do about it save for coming up to my face and killing me. And if you try that... well you'll learn abit more about me than before.
You can claim "ooo it's all going to collapse". Nope. Hasn't before, won't now. I am independent of your code bases. I do take what I want, but I do not follow anything any of you do nor rely upon it.
I've been at this abit longer than you have been. Trust me, it's all good. No need to worry or "concern troll" ;)
I did say after being parsed. There's more lines of code in the Xonotic codebase, but we parse it into a single smaller file with macros and such removed to speed up compiling and allow more advanced scripts.
Besides, most of what you've added is unnecessary extras that don't really complement the core gameplay, and often disrupt it.
I haven't bothered to implement most of the stuff from your mod, because the assets are extremely unfitting, to the point of looking like toy figurines.
Most of those buildings look like they were made in SketchUp...
Spells would be a really fun aspect if done well, but from what I've seen in your mod, they most certainly are not. Maybe I'll take a crack at a good version eventually, not everyone has all day to dedicate to "extra" stuff though.
@MarioSMB
Your post can be surmised as such: sour grapes.
"Naaa I didn't want that shit anyway"
>Most of those buildings look like they were made in SketchUp...
Go fk yourself faggot.
>Besides, most of what you've added is unnecessary extras that don't really complement the core gameplay, and often disrupt it.
More faggot bullshit. OOOO it doesn't fit up my a**hole oooo ooooo
Fking faggot.
>Spells would be a really fun aspect if done well, but from what I've seen in your mod,
Spells are really fun.
Let me put it to you this way, you sour-grapes fking faggot: you say this sh*t to my face: you die or get beaten the fk down.
Understand?
So come say it to my face, with nothing in your hand except dreams about how you *would* but ****haven't**** done any of this.
(maybe I'd spare you the death since you did implement monsters...)

Any takers?
Duion? MarioSMB?
Want to go toe to tow?
No?
I have done what you only TALK about.
You can spit on what I have done ALLL you want, you can claim you would DO it better, or that it isn't worth DOING at all.
But you know what, you fggt fks, if someone wants ANY of that stuff.
They don't come to you. You can only provide them with words.
They come to me.
ME. YOU GOT THAT YOU CK SUCKERS?
Because I ___DID___ what you CHOSE not to do.
And I am DAMN glad that you do NOT have the time to do it: that you waste away your life working for a boss, and that you will get NOTHING good from it (because everything good is banned: and you are happy with the ban).
FK you.

Such childish behaviour is why nobody takes you or your work seriously... What's the point applying reason and logic to someone who lacks them?
For what it's worth, monsters took 4 years to reach a mature enough stage to be included in the game.
The truth sets you free.
Come get all the features the Xonotic devs will not implement here, now, in ChaosEsque: http://sourceforge.net/projects/chaosesqueanthology/files/latest/download
By their own admission, merely one code file (amongst many) surpasses the weight of their entire project.
Do you want spells? Buildable buildings? City generation with buildings that have interiors? Tons of weapons (tons!). And much much more.
Do not look to Xonotic vanilla. You'll be waiting for the heat death of the universe.
It's all allready here, now, in ChaosEsque!
Let the haters run their mouth: many would be in Assad's dungeons for being a parasitic entity if they were living in Syria!
(Really, never trust a man that does not like cute girls: that's just not natural. Alot of modern european men are completely unnatural, but don't worry: they're being bred out by real men, as they should be.)

@MarioSMB
>Such childish behaviour is why nobody takes you or your work seriously...

So, Mario, you going to give me a cute little child bride?
No?
Then explain to me why the fk I would give a sh*t about what you think of me?
Explain it to me.
Let me explain this to you: "You" and "yours" oppose me getting what I want under any condition. "You" and "yours" are my enemy. I am not going to get anything from you that I do not take into my hands from your hands by my own volition. Ergo: there is absolutely no reason for me to act in any particular way to "you" or "yours".
Understand? It's very simple: you have no leverage over me. I do not have any reason to behave in any particular way to you.
>For what it's worth, monsters took 4 years to reach a mature enough stage to be

And that is why you fail.
(you being Xonotic).
Stalling for years before they will accept your work.
And yet you bind yourself to these charlatans. And spit on me, who was happy for your work from the moment I saw it (and in it went immediatly).
DivVerent is the only one "real" of the whole crew.
Atleast he doesn't slave-drive when a beggar.
