As quouted from https://creativecommons.org/public-domain/cc0/
"By marking the work with a CC0 public domain dedication, the creator is giving up their copyright and allowing reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, even for commercial purposes."
As you see, you cannot impose any restrictions by listing content as CC0.
Thank you, appologies, verry new to this, will edit the the copyright.
Okay no idea how to edit this???
Finally figured it out, so what happens if someone takes this design and then copyright at a later stage? Is that possible?
Not really. In fact, posting it here- on a publicly visible page- helps prevent that. The formal copyright process involves a search for existing works. Even if the copyright office never found this CC0 asset during that search and somehow granted the 3rd party a copyright on it, it would be very easy to prove this asset existed before their copyright application, which would both nullify their claim and subject them to fraud charges.
Thank you very much, highly appreciate you all giving a newbie like me more information. Been chatting about it with Copilot as well.
It seems the semi-copyright I'm searching for doesn't exist, I don't mind my designs being used commercially without credit, just as long as they enjoy the designs and love working it, then I'm fine.
I just don't how I would feel about somebody posting it somewhere and claiming that they designed it, taking full credit for the original design. Most likely it will sting a bit, but meh, I'll get over it.
And just as long as they don't come at me with lawsuits, hahaha, that is what I fear the most, I mean I do have my source files I guess, well I've uploaded here now... Ah now I'm consfusing myself again.
Though recently my SSD died and lost some files before I could upload it to my Google Drive, so I guess what I really mean is, as long as nobody sues me, then I'm fine.
I've recently got into game development and see there are a lot of free CC0 assets here, but I still want to design my own and I am following design guidelines and I'm enjoying it. 70x70 blocks on a layout, that could be used as template/sprite sheet inside Godot/Unity etc.
Busy with my first game.
But I'll do more research regarding copyright, Copilot has been very helpful as well, I'll chat to some other AIs as well to see if all information the AIs are giving aligns.
Again, you have my thanks for the information!
Yeah, I can understand that concern. I have occasionally seen people take someone else's CC0 work and claim it was theirs. It doesn't happen often, and it doesn't last long, because it is so easy to defeat. For example, someone on itch.io takes these assets and tries to claim they made them and is charging money for them. The kind of people that browse itch.io for game assets also tend to look here on OGA.
Then let's say the jerk claiming they made these assets tries to sue you:
Thanks for sharing your artwork and let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
This made my smile and chuckle a bit, thank you very much.
