I loved Surt's Flamelings and thought they'd make great sprites... so using some PhotoShop trickery and touchups, I create 'pixel art' style sprites out of the original high resolution image.

9 colors here not including the backgrounds... needed the extra color for additional details otherwise the images look too flat.

I sized the images so that they're 128x128 sprites (the small one can be 64x64). They're in power-of-two sizes so that they can be easily dropped into any hardware accelerated app that doesn't support non-power-of-two textures.

These would be amazing if animated.

Wish I had that kind of talent! Perhaps if Surt created animated versions of his original flamelings I could turn them into 'pixel art' style sprites like these... :)
