Huh this is a really neat set. Kinda reminds me of Golden Sun in a way. I'll take a look more closely at it.
So I think there's a bit of a problem with the licensing. CC0 is, essentially, "public domain". If you say CC0, that essentially makes it free for any purposes whatsoever, but you don't want these to be redistributed. There's nothing wrong with restricting redistribution, but as far as I know, that's incompatible with the CC0 license. So you might want to check that out and update it.
Jaidyn is correct. Redistribution and resale are neccessary features of free/ibre licenses. Forbidding them is incompatible with all the licenses on OGA, and renders the assets effectively unusable from a legal standpoint.@Mushra Games; would you be willing to omit that restriction? Until then I must mark this submission as having a licensing issue in order to prevent people from using it in a way you may not approve of.EDIT: Fixed, thanks! :)
Thank you for letting me know about the licensing problem! I'll fix it asap
Thank you for the useful information! I just updated the license
Hi, the preview image is far too big, you should consider rescale it by 50%
The specific license isn't the issue. As I said, the conditions in your attribution instructions are incompatible with ALL the licenses on OGA. What needs to change is the conditions forbidding redistribution and resale.EDIT: Fixed, thanks! :)
Thanks! Fixed
Got it! Fixed
Looks good. Unlocked.
Just FYI, "You can use these assets in commercial projects. You can modify the assets. You can redistribute or resale." is unneccessary as it is implied by the license. You can leave it if you want, though. :)
With that settled, it does seem to be like you guys are just starting out. I love this asset pack, but there's not yet enough to really work with. Still, I'll definitely be following you guys to see how this progresses. Please do keep in mind, there's no guarantee you'll be able to grow that quickly. While I am back to working on assets myself (mostly sticking with LPC for now), I'm doing that on the side from my still full time programming job.
Admittedly, though, that also helps me to donate to some groups when possible. I already have done so with ElizaWy and I'm considering doing so for bluecarrot as well. If I can see this coming out consistently I may donate to you guys as well.
I might consider taking a peak at your assets here and seeing how easily I can come up with a Tiled tileset for it. If I do create one I'll drop it in the comments here.
Great buildings!
Thank you!
The readme first!.txt file has reverted to being incompatible with the license. I have to re-mark this as having a licensing issue until it is re-fixed.EDIT: Re-Fixed, re-thanks! :)
Is there any license where you cannot resale?
None that explicitly forbid it. I've never seen anyone successfully resell assets under the OGA-BY license: the person trying to sell your art is required to link back to this page, where everyone can see it is free, so they don't bother paying the person trying to sell your art.
I always assumed the main reason for supporting commercial usage was for including the assets in a larger project like, well, an actual game, of course. Just selling the assets individually or trying to is really dumb all things considered because, as you say, they're freely available anyway. But the licenses have this support for the reason of using them in another project, and of course, you have to link back to the original asset to show the assets are available to use freely.
And sure, we could just have assets that are free to use only for non-commercial usage. This website isn't for that purpose, the purpose is to enable commercial usage using free assets for smaller indie projects. As it adds a motivation to make it easier for people to express their ideas in a game project even if they're not great at art themselves, or to simplify creating art assets to an extent as it can take a lot of work to implement.
Thanks for the clarifications! Just updated the asset pack
