Here's a collection of isometric hero and creature graphics.

I basically abandoned this series because I switched from a tactics-style turned based RPG to an action RPG which requires much better animation.

Features (i.e. limitations)

  • Very low color count, and not anti-aliased.  This is basically to make recoloring very easy.
  • Very low number of frames.  Movement is a 4 frame cycle.  Attack, Special, Hit, Dead are all single frame.
  • 8 direction
  • 256x256 per frame.  I planned to use these at 128x128 but rendered them bigger.

Graphics included:

  • Elemental
  • Goblin
  • Magician (monster; not the same animations as the hero)
  • Hero in clothes
  • Hero in leather armor
  • Hero in metal armor
  • Ogre
  • Skeleton
  • Slime
  • Werewolf
  • Zombie

Also, overlays for the hero (works with all three hero graphics)

  • longsword
  • longbow
  • staff
  • shield

Clint, do you still have the source blender files of those enemies you did not add to FLARE? If yes, it would be great if you could upload them as well.

Hey clint the ogre is perfect for my game! Can I use it? The other stuff is amazing too! I'm so new to this site and I keep running into all of your work, it's so good :D And flare is awsome as well. It's pretty inspirational :)

I added CC-BY license options. Should be easier now to use it in any project.

Unfortunately I think the original .blend files to these are lost to time.

These - particularly the werewolf - remind me a little of the characters in that old game Twinsen.

Is there any way you could continue this series with more frames for the animations? I would be willing to pay for them as I LOVE the art style.

Please respond to this so we can talk :)

CAGEStudios: Half of these models were lost, so I couldn't really add more frames easily.

I wouldn't mind doing a larger, better quality set like this some day. Especially if I can work with a concept artist with a strong aesthetic.
