Indeed, that is a good reason to do a regular submission.
Still, I think it is better to group these meshes into sets first. I've planned a 'construction equipment' set ( an excavator, a bulldozer, a couple of trucks ), a 'planes' set ( one or two planes, a balloon, something else ) and a 'ships' set ( a boat, a couple of ships, a lighthouse as a bonus ). When there are 3 models for a certain set, I'll do a regular submission.
In their current state, I don't think they worth a separate upload. I had plans to make a sets of models, like construction equipment set with excavator, bulldozer, soil compactor and a couple of trucks. That might be a good submission. But in the current state - I don't think so.
In my opinion, flare needs more visual diversity. Therefore tileset improvements are a good place to start. Besides, modelling of simple static objects seems like a right thing to familiarize myself with a flare pipeline.
As for the specific topic - I'm not sure. They all are more or less equivalent to me.

This one is for decarative purposes mostly, not for fighting.

Sandsound has made a textured version. It would be better to rig & animate it instead of this one.
As for turning 3d into 2d, there are a couple of tutorials on the flare page, that basically capture the process:
As for the link, it is better to wait for Clint's answer. Though AFAIK these issues are still relevant.
