Yeah, it's kind of hit-and-miss as far as finding music stores that carry the high-end synths in-store. When I got my Triton back in the day, I was actually able to try it out in a store which was great...but years later they didn't have the Kronos in-store (only online.)
Hey Spring, to answer your question, I use two dedicated synths: a Korg Triton and a Korg Kronos and I've recently started learning Ableton Live 10 which is a software synth. I love them all, although the quality of the sounds in Ableton is inferior (in my opinion) to the sounds that my Korg synths generate. As far as recommending synths is concerned, it really depends on what you want to accomplish with them so you need to try them out if possible. I hope that was helpful! :)
