I like it! The chocolate color makes that dirt almost look tasty!
Thanks for sharing!
For reasons I may never understand, I took a crack at shifting this set over to the sega master system palette. I don't know why, but I just can't get enough of that SMS palette lately.
Anyways, here's the results, just posting for fun and in case it might inspire others to join me in the cult of the SMS palette. :)
whoah! You just blew my mind! I'm a programmer by trade also, the idea of being on a project as the artist? Mind blown!
If you see anything good in my art, rest assured it's just from using the tools and techniques I've cribbed from the masters here on OGA. :)
But anyway, I'm always up for a challenge, PM me and maybe we can figure out something to collaborate on.

So that little pink gum drop guy (or gal?) straight up inspired Yulpers! my entry into this year's OpenGameArt Summer Game Jam. I loved how there was a single section version of him/her and then a two section version. That got me thinking it would make for an easy Mario-clone, with the little version serving as little Mario and the double section version serving as big Mario (after he eats the mushroom). Then I thought, why stop at two sections, maybe he just keeps getting taller... But a super tall character seemed kinda odd for a platfomer, so then I thought, what if he doesn't get taller, he gets longer.... And poof! Yulpers was born!
I also used a bunch of your other great stuff as the basis for the tiles and backgrounds in the game. Plus your super cool beetle bug from the 'Various Creatures' set for the baddies.
thanks again for sharing all your great art, I findit very literally inspirational! :)
@chasersgaming: Got a question on the ratings. How are we supposed to score the 'Art Challenge' rating? If I understand correctly, that one is supposed to be bonus points for using works from the OGA art challenges, is that right? Do we just give one star for each asset used or something like that?
I added a couple of characters and an outline, posting here in case the might be useful to anyone. Still credit buch, I just fiddled with the pixels a bit.
I added a few characters and an outline to the fonts. Uploading them here in case they might be of use to anyone. Still credit buch for them, I just twiddle a few pixels. I should add, I also slightly recolored the characters in order to get them into the Sega Master System palette for use in Yulpers.
The name really says it all! These are great!

@chasersgaming: Sorry to hold you in suspense. I am still working my way through all the entries before I go back and rate them and choose a favorite.
this is great! Opening makes me think of NES Bubble Bobble but then it takes a different more epic turn. I love it!

Another awesome set surt!
I used the fish for my entry into this year's OpenGameArt Summer Game Jam.
Gave it a flatter shading treatment and googly eyes, you can see the results here:

Went to move it into the SMS palette and was pleasantly suprised to see it was already in the SMS palette. I should have guessed ;)
Anyway, thanks again for sharing, you're truly among OGA's finest!
