Dawn of the Era

Hello folks!

I have spent past years developing a turn based strategy game project,
the game  is inspired  at software  like Xcom  but it  is ported  in a
fantasy scenario (so i could use magic ;-)).

After so  much work the game  is now feature complete  but still lacks
some arts to be actually completed (except for bugs that will popup in
the future of course!).

The game  is in 3d  (uses opengl for  rendering, and a  custom engine)
and, while  many of the  contents are procedurally generated  it still
misses the characters models.

At the bare  minimum three models are needed: a  warrior an wizard and
an healer. More would be fantastic but not a priority at this time.

The game load  model in MD2 file  format, i am using  a model borrowed
from the excellent "UFO: alien invasion" that you can find here:

https://notabug.org/cage/dote/src/master/data/models/ai/ortnok

I hope i could find someone that halp me with this task.

The game is released under GPLv3 or later and the sources can be found
here:

https://notabug.org/cage/dote/

it works only on linux, though.

To put the  things clear i can not  afford to pay for that  work, i am
confident in people's spirit of cooperation.

Feel free to ask for more, if interested.

Thank you.

Hey,

Very cool project! I was wondering if you had any screenshots of the game, even with the temporary art? I'm not an artist or anything, but I always enjoy seeing other people's work when it comes to tactical rpgs.

I hope you find some help, this is a great community.

Hello!

Thanks to both of you for your reply!

I am posting some screenshots, Danimal i am actually using some of your assets (and they fits so well!) so let me thank you again for all your works on free contents!

Just a quick note regarding the screenshot: except for furnitures, GUI and tree's texture everything is procedurally generated. This was not a deliberate design choice but more a workaround for my bad design and art skill! :)

Bye!

Thanks to you, its nice to see some of my work used, i think the models that fit you better would be flare´s since you are going for a low res-pixely look:

https://opengameart.org/content/flare-collection

https://opengameart.org/content/isometric-hero-and-heroine (this has a lot of variant weapons/armor inside)

https://opengameart.org/users/clint-bellanger

https://opengameart.org/art-search-advanced?keys=flare&title=&field_art_...

They are already animated (albeit a bit basic), so that should save you lots of work.

Also, even if its too soon to optimize, i think you should desaturate everythings colour and use a more "pastel" like look; it makes things blend easier in the eye.

Looks very cool! I definitely agree with Danimal, the FLARE stuff on this site will provide you with a bunch of stuff, also look up submissions by Bleed, he has some awesome 3D isometric models, both characters and items that may prove useful.

Hello!

Thank you for your reply!

Flare models seems great but sadly  i am not able to use blender and, moreover, my artist skill is a mess! :)

Regarding desaturating textures's color this sould be simple to do, i'll try that ASAP, thank you!

Lou: Dusk Tactics looks cool!

Bye!

The good thing is that they are ready to use, you only need to find the way to export to your format of choice, many are already integrated in blender. Im pretty sure there is a tutorial on how to do it in UFO:ai forums since blender is their 3D program of choice for models. Its not hard at all; also being realist, the chances of someone doing that for you are very low. You are better off investing a bit of time learning how to do it yourself, its not that hard.

Hello Danimal!

i can see the point, I'll try to learn blender even if finding someone to collaborate with would be nice sometimes! :-D

I wonder if adding some more animation to the models you shown me in the earlier post would be too difficult. I need a few animation for different kind of weapon (spear and crossbow), for example.

Bye!

I guess the one for bow can be used for crossbow, cant say for spear.

On another note, you should drop by this other forum and present yourself and your project:

https://forum.freegamedev.net/

They are totally supporting of any libre game, that should at least give you some exposure and maybe help.

Hello! I have worked a bit on this project and changed the characters from 3D to 2D using the awesome LPC bitmap, the results seems nice to me. :) here are some screenshot! :) Thank you again to all the peoples that drawn the liberated pixel cup sprites! :) Bye!

Hi Danimal!

Thank you very much!

I think the visual appearance of the game has improved despite (or
because of?) the simplicity of the solution.

There are some issues that i hope to address in the next days, i am
still pushing commits to the repository and using this sprites makes
me a bit more confident about the future of this project.

Bye and thank you again!

Hello!

I have added lights to the dungeon, i mean, any room of the dungeons of a level get its (randomly chosen) light. The furnitures also get a light that usually are different in color from the one of the room. This effect is inspired from a work of a great movie director i like very much (can you guess which one ;-) ) . I think the results is not too bad. :)

Bye!
