How to finish Goblin Mission and where did you get GFX+Sound effects all from?
Hi there,
first of all many thanks for this great game! I tried the AOS4 port as well as the Windows version. It is highly addictive (cost me almost half of last night)!
What I'm wondering about is whether the current build (0.15) is already a real playable game or still more or less an engine? Since I started the mission to destroy the Goblin camp at the river but this is impossible! As soon as you leave a map sector and reenter it all the enemies which have already been killed are there again living and enjoing complete health! So can this mission be accomplished at all? Can any mission in the current build be accomplished at all? If so how?
My second part refers to the great artwork and sound effects. Where did you get all these from? Done by yourself and contributed by others? Or are there sources where sound effects can be freely obtained from?
And one request: Is there a possibility to provide some documentation on possible settings in settings.txt as well as on game and gameplay (for example how to finish a mission when all enemies are reoccuring or explanation why are enemies always reoccuring when reentering sectors)?
Many thanks in advance! Keep on the great work!
Personally, I found the goblin mission to be slightly confusing too: the thing is that the camp is not in the Frontier Plains, but one map further -- on the left side of the river, there's an exit at the very north end. Once you kill all the goblins there, the mission will be marked as complete (although they'll still respawn next time you enter the area. :P)
Thanks! Just realised the same this afternoon!
But: How can I buy one of the healing potions from the alchemist where are 5 available at 25 gold each when I cannot afford all 5 of them? Should be a part of the documentation (even if it is not possible to obtain a single on but only the bunch of all 5)?
The missions are all very doable. I've finished everything except Living Bones. I decided to try some other types of characters for a while.
You need to do a few passes through the plains and clean them out in order to level and gear up enough to tackle the main encampment. You just can't run up the river first time you get the quest and have any hope of living, or even of making it back through the plains alive.
It's slightly easier if you've got a ranged weapon. That being said, the new A* path finding actually makes it okay with a sword; goblins are more likely to run at you and close in than to get hung up on terrain and pick you off with thrown spears.
I suspect there might still be some tweaks that could be done with the rate of levelling and the enemy power. Level 3 in particular seems like a real grind.
To get just one potion, shift-click them. It grabs just one off the stack.
Anonymous,
Apologies that the Goblin mission is confusing. I realized it too late before releasing v0.15. I'll try to make it better next time.
As c said, shift-click will pull one item from a stack. I'll try to add some helpful tooltips to the menus later that explain all this.
I created most of the art myself, though many people have contributed pieces. Most of the sound effects are from here on OGA. The music is contributed by two composers. Full credits: https://github.com/clintbellanger/flare/wiki/Credits
In a more complete game there would be more areas to explore, so it wouldn't feel like there was nothing to do but grind between areas. What you're playing really is still an alpha demo. I am glad you already find it addictive!
I also played Flare these two days. I'm fully newby to RPG. And I had difficulties to end the Goblin mission. First, as said, I need many runs (killing all goblins and beast) before understanding the map was incorrect. Then, I found the mission difficult. I needed to wait my caracter gain 1 point in offense and 1 in defense before to expect defeating the red goblins. Perhaps a simpler first mission can be appreciated.
But, most of all: thanks for this game.
