Rise of Civilizations - Need for 2D animated sprites
Hello everyone, I'm developing a webbrowser mmorts game that I named Rise of Civilizations (a working name, until I come up with something better) and I am in need of a few sprites. The game itself is just entering the alpha testing stage, but before I'll let my friends commence testing, I'd like to fill in a few missing pieces of art, so that it doesn't look too dull.
Requested sprite details :
I currently need just two animated sprites
- a prehistoric warrior (muscular guy wielding a wooden club, long hair, half naked, think something like http://civilization.wikia.com/wiki/Warrior_(Civ4)?file=Warrior_%2528Civ4%2529.jpg)
- a nomadic hunter (thinner guy all dressed up in leather, wielding a spear.)
And these are the required properties :
- The units are intended to be smaller, something of the size of 50x50px would suffice greatly
- The sprites should be isometric, 8 directions. Animations should be Stand/Idle (f.e. a warrior polishing his club), Walk, Attack, Taunt (the warrior screaming at the enemies, furiosly waving his club above his head)
- As for the style, I prefer something more realistic, less cartoonish. I really like art like http://opengameart.org/content/archer-bleeds-game-art, however such level of detail is not required. Something in the style of the infantry from Age of Empires II would do greatly.
About the Game :
Rise of Civilizations is/will be an mmorts web browser game that represents a blend of the traditional browser mmorts games, like Travian or Grepolis, with the engines of desktop strategy turn-based games, like Civilization or Total War games. As a result, the player will see a traditional chess-like board split into tiles, each tile having a distinct type - forest, plains, river, even city (think Travian). However, instead of just sending an army to loot a city and seeing a timer when the army arrives (like in most, if not all similar browser mmorts games), here your armies are able to move freely through the terrain, engaging one another in the field, or performing a joint operation against a common foe (think Civilization). The game itself is not turn based however, so each operation (like moving from tile to a neighbouring tile, or embarking a fleet) will require a certain ammount of time (think Travian again)
The idea may seem ambitious (and I didn't even mentioned that the game spans multiple eras of human history), however I've got everything coded (took me 2,5 years) and tested for bugs. The only thing I'm missing before I can pass the whole thing to my friends and see if the game is enjoyable is art. I would provide screenshots, but it currently looks like shit :) May do so on request though.
As for licensing, I plan to make all the frontend (html, css and javascript files) free to reuse (don't know which license to choose from yet though, but for now lets assume that the whole frontend will be public domain). The backend, however, will remain close-source. And yes, I plan on making some extra cash with this game :)
About Me :
I am a young webdeveloper with experience in both coding and designing server applications with a master degree in computer science. At the day, I work for a small software company, and at night, I work on Rise of Civilizations. I also like to play the guitar and compose my own music, and I love literature.
Last Notes :
This is my free-time project so all my money I'm investing in it comes from my own pocket, thus I would probably prefer a reference to a finished sprite under a public license, or someone willing to collaborate for free under a public license. However, I'm also willing to pay for these two sprites, so if you're interested in such arrangement, please leave me a message with a link to some of your previous works and/or a portfolio, and a price estimation. Lastly, I'm not an artist, thus my specification is probably incomplete. Feel free to ask more questions concerning the sprites/game itself :)
