An open letter to McAfee

Dear McAfee,

For several months now, you have listed my website as having been found to have "potential security risks" according to your "TrustedSource web reputation analysis" without actually enumerating what those security risks are.  I followed your instructions and attempted to contact you by leaving a question on your website.  It has thus far been ignored.

Now, for the record, I don't use your shovelware, but I imagine that when people who do use it come to my website, they get a scary warning message telling them that horrible (if unspecified) things could happen to them if they view my webpage.

So please, either a) tell me what's wrong with my site so I can fix it, or b) remove your ridiculous warning.

Thank you,

Bart K.

Must be some kind of false positive reading or someone submiting it as a threat. Way lame, I am posting this because you guys rock. I am making a game with some models I found here. :D This site is no threat. There like your snuggie on a cold day.

Sincerely,

TheKingofDemons

I vote for (b). Your site is awesome. I just created an account to give them an observation.

Is it possible for an anonymous user to subit here an archive containing an executable ?

Maybe it is because people are allowed to upload zipped archives? But well, sourceforge.net is listed "green" on their site, so that shouldn't be it.

Well, SourceForge is very well known, I'd say they make exceptions for high-profile sites like that.

Thats the only thing I can think of is this site having so much uploading and downloading going on when its not a very well known site in the first place. What can mcafee do about it anyways but whine?

McAfee is a virus itself.

  1. It slows down your computer
  2. It constantly prompts you
  3. It allows other viruses in and
  4. It tries to make you spend money on crappy products

I rest my case :|

I've been visiting OGA for some time, mostly because I enjoy making Browser Games and some of the artwork helps fill in some gaps until I can comission some art of my own. Never had an issue. Keep it up.

I second that. I feel mcafee is only used due to the high population buying prebuilt computers with mcafee already on it. :P

Anti-virus? I'm a long-time Linux user. Can someone please explain to me what an "anti-virus" is? ;)
