Open palettes for specific purposes

So, we see a lot of art based on the Dawnbringer palettes (16 & 32 colors), and also Arne's 16 color palette.  While I love the idea of general purpose palettes, I think we may also benefit if there were some color palettes with some specific themes in mind.

Off the top of my head, I can think of several ideas for themed palettes:

  • A bright, cheerful, saturated color palette like you would see in Super Mario World or Secret of Mana.
  • A muted, somewhat dreamlike palette like in Chrono Trigger
  • A more "realistic" palette with colors that tend more towards yellow and brown rather than blue.

Would anyone else be interested in working on themed palettes like this?

I'd love to use themed palettes like this, but I'm going to be useless to help create them (too colorblind).

Here's some pixel art by Fool that has a lovely bright yet muted paletted; I'd love to make an entire game with these colors.

As a non-artist (wannabe artist?) it was immensely helpful for me to have the LPC palette during that contest. I felt like I was able to produce harmonious art even though my theory is somewhat weak.

I personally would love to have a library of palettes to browse through for inspiration. (That chrono trigger one is beautiful BTW.)

I am currently using Dawnbringer 32. I like that all the colors are named so I can use them in scripts. would love to see more like it.

Even when I intend to use my own pallet I often will use Dawnbringer's to help me slap down the idea before I tweak it to suit my needs.  I think themed pallets would be really useful.  I'm not the best in creating pallets either but I'd bet if you brought the idea up over at pixelation you'd get some really great help especially if you have something to start with and people just need to test it out and suggest tweaks.  It's how Dawnbringer and Arne got their 16 color pallets to what they are now.  Their pallets are both pretty bright and colorful, I don't know that we'd need another one of those, but the other ideas for pallet themes would be good.
