These songs are great. I'd like to use them for a project. This project is called Epical, a battle for wesnoth addon with a science ficition theme. Unfortunetly battle for wesnoth requires a gpl 2.0 or 3.0 licence and I'd like to ask if you could provide them in that licence?

It's ok if you say no. The other issue - what is the name of the songs?

Fly or Techno Space? Your provided mp3 unfortunately don't provide this information.

If you like I can advertise your songs in a radio show.

Best regards and keep up the good work.

Unfortunately, this old tracks, and I do not have the raw materials (DAW project), so only the MP3. I'm sorry. Tracks can be used, only i ask for a link to the project)))

Thank you for your swift response.

You can change the tags using free software such as Mp3tag, but I already did that and entered your name as interpret. I will just need the original title and need to know if "fly", "fly_1"i, "industria", "industria_1" is ok. mp3 is enough, I so far want to use the original zhelanov sound ;-).

The projects (or development thread) link of Epical is: http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=38092

That's the discussion concerning the music licence can be reviewed here: http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=39189

There are just a few information about the project itself, which is an addon to battle for wesnoth. Once you downloaded Battle for Wesnoth (1.10 stable version!) you can download my addon as well and testplay (but you don't have to). I will soon upload some selfdrawn pictures of the campaign as a bundle.

Although it's rather late to be chiming in, I think you misunderstood something there Heindal. The reason Alexandr mentioned the project file (DAW) is because all versions of the GPL require the publication of source code (or equivalent).

It's unclear from the legal perspective whether something like a streamed audio file (MP3, WAV, AAC, et cetera) can actually be meaningfully licensed under the GPL at all. Although lossless files are somewhat closer than lossy, it's really the audio production files that are the closest match to a source code equivalent.

For sequenced audio (MOD, IT, S3M, and so on), the problem is less ambiguous. Tracker modules themselves are fairly close to source files. Encoded streams or playback output would be the "binaries".

In any case, GPL is not a recommended license for artistic assets according to its own authors. This is something the Wesnoth folks really ought to understand, or seek a lawyer about. Same for anyone else who's incorporating assets which have no corresponding source/raw files.

Most likely the reason they want all-GPL inputs is because they think that will somehow absolve them of any legal responsibilities or controversies, but that is a naive and dangerous view in the long run. Having a fixed single-license policy can make it much harder to adapt in reality, especially when that license carries particular continuous requirements. If they're worried about minimizing all possible legal issues, they really ought to require extremely open licensing (BSD/CC-BY) or even public domain release from contributors.

On the other hand, for those not particularly concerned about lawsuits, the perceived incompatibilities of GPL and certain other licenses are not worth making a fuss over. It's not going to matter if the copyright holders don't sue you to begin with.

Thanks for this information. Unfortunately I haven't used Alexandr's music to avoid any problems, even so the music would work fine for such a science fiction theme.

When uploading addons on the wesnoth server the uploader has to confirm that the provided files are licenced under GPL. All files provided by this addon will than be treated as GPL as well.

It makes sense to do it this way, even so GPL is not a good licence for music, sound or pictures. But I think this is a burden from the very beginning of the project, which existed before Creative Common.
