3D chess pieces. Uses subsurf modifiers which are not applied. Thus can be used high or low poly. Without modifiers all six pieces are <800 faces, however, it looks useful after subsurf level 1 which lands it <3k faces. 

EDIT: prettified the knight.

eek, someone noticed :). I run into a problem with the horse. When I try to create a deeper dent, subsurf modifier goes wacko and creates many artifacts. Thats the reason I left it like that. I would love to hear if there is a solution to that.

It seems that those artifacts were caused by n-gon faces.

So I used this in a quick chess sim, i scaled them to accurate size for a board with 2.5" squares and placed them, along with edgesplit modifiers. Maybe useful to you. It's the best game-ready chess set I could find.
