Why are these flagged as having license issues?
I assume because of the Ubuntu copyrights...
Sorry about that. I never imagined that it would be a problem to use the Ubuntu login screen, hope this one doesn't break any laws ;-)
@Julius:
Are you sure it was because of copyright issues and not because of trademark issues? This would also make the new version unusable, because "Windows" is a Microsoft trademark.
Is the BSOD really a copyright issue?
I ask because xscreensaver has been part of most Linux distros forever, and it's got that fake BSOD screensaver that has exactly the same stuff.
How about using a screenshot from your desktop or your modelling-software picturing the pc showing your modelling software, showing your pc? :)
Fake BSODs should be fine. Not sure about the non-fake one but it's definitely safer than Ubuntu logos.
I flagged it for the ubuntu screen, since we have not 'flag trademark issue' button :)
Thanks for taking care of this! unflagged!
PS: it looks like wikipedia people think BSOD is in the PD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Windows_9X_BSOD.png
Regardless BSOD isn't cool, is cliche, is outdated and makes the model less useful in my opinion.
I wont even start about any copyright/trademark/picture/wiki discussion. Please focus on the content. IMHO the BSOD rips the soul from the creation as it was intended by the artist with the Ubuntu Login screen (which was looking better besides): A modern useable PC - you could find in numbers in an office or at home.
Now an office with 21 BSOD...great.
Imagine: DeusEx and BSOD - "oh, no, wait, can't hack...it's already broken...this one too...and...this...dooh".
Besides: Original art is always better and shifts the view towards your creation - not some company else.
I had plans to build a remake of Xbill called Xbill3D, using the Cube2 engine, but I guess that idea's out of the window now :-(
Sad... I had great plans, was even working on a boss-monster that looked not unlike mr. Balmer, with a big gun shooting legal documents that slow the player down.
Thanks for the advise on the technical aspects of the model. I have tried to fix some of the isues in v2, but the textures are still a mess.
