Subscribing to threads

There seems to be no option to subscribe to a thread except by replying and leaving the "Notify me when new comments are posted" checkbox checked.
Ideally, there would be a button at the top of the thread or below the first post to (un)subscribe to it.
Actually I can't see this ' "Notify me when new comments are posted" checkbox checked. Where can this checkbox and comment can be seen ? I have not seen this at least on iceweasel 10.0.3 which I have atm.
@shirish: It's at the absolute bottom left, below/left of the text box
I'll see if there's a way to fix this.
