Seeking 2D artist for an educational game in a GTA like world
Monday, June 9, 2014 - 13:39
We are looking for an artist who can create some assets for a game we have created and are about to release in a beta version to be demoed at Meaningful Play this fall. This is a July 1 deadline and we are interested in tightly collaborating an artist to bring out the aesthetic side of the game (though it looks fine right now)
The basics:
- This game (inspired by code hero) has been created to help allow students to practice writing Verilog HDL (this is a language used for developing hardware). To do this, a city map with a few intersections is created and cars have a start and end point (off the map). These cars appear and drive to their destination through traffic lights (obeying the lights). Cars can crash into one another (bad), but are smart enough not to crash into someone who is in front of them. The game aspect is using VerilogHDL to control the traffic lights. Players click on each of the intersections and can design the control of the traffic light with the goal of maximizing how many cars get through the city (avoid crashes) in the minimum amount of time.
- Currently, we have some GTA2 like assets for our cars and tiles that can be used to make a map (attachment has a screenshot). These are 64x64 pixel drawings in png (8-bit). There is a skull and bones to represent a crash (64x64 8-bit png), and five 64x64 8-bit png drawings for the different traffic signals (stop, go, go_forward, go_right, go_left). The car world was the simplest place for us to start, but an artist has complete freedom to choose a style genre including the blank tiles we have that are outside of the roads. In other words, cars are fine, but medieval carts, bugs, boats, etc. are all viable aesthetic mediums for the game as long as they are controlled by traffic-like intersections. We would like assets that build all the above.
- This is an open source project that we have with the MIT opensource license. As this is an academic project, we might have a donation button associated with the game to help support students being funded for development in the summer. The main accolades that would be associated with this work is inclusion in the credits and the website for the game.
If interested, please email me: jamiespa at miamiog dot edu with your ideas and a link to some samples of your work.
Thanks,
Peter
