[Paid] Looking for pixel artist, desert themed game, early stage
We are a team of two working on a roguelike which has mostly two kinds of scenes, a top-down ( sort of a 3/4 perspective) overworld map where you walk around with your characters and a 2.5d battle scene seen from the side.
The game is desert themed with a middle eastern twist to it. We are looking for an artist to commission to do some work for hire pixel art for us. The game will be released commercially. We want the art to be somewhat abstract, not too cartoony, a bit bleak. The game is closed source.
What to expect from us:
-
easy going people
-
it's the first time we try this out, so give us some leeway 😃
-
we have a rough mood board and an art direction doc, based on which, we created a WIP 32 colors palette. We aren't artists so we'll appreciate some guidance/advice from your side
-
we'll likely need some time and maybe a bit of back-and-forth discussion to figure out some of the details of what we exactly want
-
we'll definitively be happy to have a long-term relationship with you (as an artist :p) if things get going. We're trying to make this our full-time job
What we expect from you:
-
easy going
-
able to steer us in the right direction in terms of colors or sizes if needed
-
open to chat/discuss about things. We'll definitely need to chat a bit and have you take a look at the mood board to find the right style
-
clean looking, nice pixel art
-
good enough English proficiency
We are in an early pre-production stage, for this phase, we'll likely need:
-
map scene: a top-down tileset for the map scene. We are looking for a tileset that has nuance and curves to it to "break" the feeling of the map being a bunch of square tiles. (This(https://mattwalkden.itch.io/rpg-overworld-tileset) is what we consider a decent example of this). 16x16px tiles, the number of tiles TBD and discussed.
-
map scene: props and decorations for the tileset (like a palm, big mysterious rocks, nomad camp, etc.) These will have variable sizes, but we don't expect them to be too large. For example, some palms are ~32px tall, and so on.
-
map scene: units to move around the map. Think orcs or the player units being seen from above.
-
battle scene: 3-player character sprites with a sort of idle, attack, cast, death animation and 4-5 enemies with only an idle animation. Something like https://imgur.com/gallery/Ibbak/ for the player characters maybe.
-
battle scenes: some foreground and background props
-
might need some UI things as well
Please leave a comment or DM us with a message pointing to your portfolio or examples that you believe are closer to what we are looking for, also provide your rates if it's possible to do so. Give us a couple of days to reply.
