Looking for great levels for several open source game forks.
Level Design Tools for Various Games
Hi everyone,
If you're interested in level design, I’ve forked a few games that either come with built-in level editors or use standard formats that you can edit with available tile editors. Let’s dive into the details:
Games with Built-In Level Editors
-
Fish Fillets Remake (Puzzle)
- Level Editor: The built-in level editor for Fish Fillets Remake is still a work-in-progress, so you may encounter some bugs or unfinished features. However, it has enough functionality to allow you to create levels without too much hassle. If you run into issues, feel free to ask for help.
- Note: I’m providing a standalone version of the editor for easier setup, but I recommend using the editor included in the game for the best experience.
- Download the standalone editor: Fish Fillets Grid-Level Editor
-
Spinny the Runner (Platformer)
- Level Editor: This game originally came with a level editor, which I’ve enhanced with a lot of new features. To get started, I’ve put together a detailed guide explaining the various entities and custom settings.

Games Using Standard Formats (Compatible with Various Tile Editors)
-
Rit (Rhythm Game)
- Game Description: Rit is a rhythm game inspired by the 1k-10k mania style. It supports multiple standard formats, and although I haven't tested every single one, I can confirm that Rit works with formats like Qua (from Quaver), OSU, StepMania, and more.
- Level Editor: I’ve developed a level editor specifically for the Qua format.
- Qua Level Editor: Qua Editor for Rit
-
Sienna (One-Button Platformer by SimonLarsen)
- Game Description: Sienna is a fast-paced, simple one-button platformer with an emphasis on quick reflexes. It uses standard formats, so you can create levels with any compatible tile editor.
-
Mr. Rescue (Arcade-Style Action Game by SimonLarsen)
- Game Description: In Mr. Rescue, you control a character tasked with evacuating civilians from burning buildings. Like Sienna, it uses standard tilemaps that can be edited with common tile editors.
- 4. thrust-ii-reloaded. a remake of the classic Thrust II game, ZX Spectrum version created by pgimeno and forked from https://notabug.org/pgimeno/Thrust-II-reloaded)
Additional Information
Please note that I’m the creator of the forks for these games, but not the original developer. Levels created with the editors should work on both the original games and the forks, provided they don’t use additional features specific to the forks. If you prefer the original graphics, you can set up any of the forks to use the classic assets.
You are also welcome to add new assets when creating levels, as long as the assets are compatible with FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) licenses like the ones used in these games.
Share Your Creations!
If you create any interesting levels or mods using these editors, feel free to share them here! Your creations may even be included in future versions of the forks. Let’s inspire each other with some creative level designs!
