Locynaeh's pixel art learning logs
Hi everyone,
As I'm trying to learn pixel art, I'm creating this topic to document follow my progression.
Do not hesitate if you have any advice O:-)

I use (and learn) Pixelorama.
For a first try, I based myself on a reference photo to draw a landscape in a 64x32 canvas (reduced to 60x32) with a 7 colors palette : calm-sunset by Paulina Riva
I think I made the basic mistake to put a lot of details in a canvas which can't welcome such details and also expanded the palette when the 7 colors should have been sufficient.
I tried to fix it but it isn't a success. I guess that at this little size of canvas, I should leave the reference photo and reimagine the original landscape to make it fit the canvas as in the simple choice made with the example illustration provided with the palette.
Let's mention my bad use of dithering, I wonder if at this size I should use it at all.
Wow you're already doing really well. I like the top one better and could see it actually being used in a game. I like the clouds from the bottom better. Maybe less dithering? Less is more with dithering I've always found best.
Not specific to your work, just general pixel art advice, rip tilesets/sprites and observe them. Zoom in, Play with color, understand the shapes and colors they're using. Try creating "legally distinct" versions from scratch, not necessarily to use, but as practice. You're already doing super well and at the end of the day it can't hurt.
