Laser with face

Hi,
I am building a 2D game with a laser as main character. I am more the kind of programmer than an artist but I got all the art done on my own so far except for the laser. I want to give the laser beam (like the one on the picture below) a life.
Like I said, this laser will be my main Character, so I want him to look like a mascot with a face. I tried a bit around but I have no idea how to get it done.
Is there an artist in here who would be able to do this? I'm open to pay for it.
Otherwise: Any hints on how to give a laser a life? Didn't find a game out there to inspire me.
looking for something like this?

Or like this (just a sketch idea)?

The laser is moving in 4 directions (right, top, left, down). So yes to the second one with the face on the right side. My problem is, that the user has to be able to see the facial expression. Did a sketch similar to yours yesterday, but the laser is kind of too tiny to see if the face is happy or not. I can't make the laser bigger than this because I need the space in the scene for other things. Do you think it's possible to draw a happy face and a sad face to a laser this small which the user is able to recognize while the laser is moving?
I also thought about a topview like this example of a snake:
But I have no idea how to put a mouth on the laser like this. On the snake it just works cause of the tongue. Maybe it is possible to "make" the laser happy or sad just with eyes on him?
Eyebrows might do the job. Or point the mouth upwards.
Heheheh... Coherent light
