Looks nice, I can give you a recommendation. Try to use blending and masking in GIMP. Using that it would be extremely easy to create variations.
Secondly, becareful about derivative works of copyrighted material.
"Looks Nice" Thanks , thats better then the responce i got over at the Openxcom site ;)
I am only just learing gimp ( And Art in general) so i will definelty look into blending and masking , right now i am in love with the burn tool.
As for the copyright thing, i am not sure what would happen , Openxcom requires orignal install to play ( as all the graphics and sounds come from that) my work is kinda a free fanbased mod/upgrade . Seriously its been 18years since its release , would they really hunt me down?
He still needs more work but tonight i could not resist haveing a go at the Zombie , honestly it still needs alot of work but i am having fun playing with it.
see? you can do it if you try, also i remembered something else you can use, try to look into sprite sheets from the neo-geo age, cadillacs and dinosaurs for example has some good ones along with many games of that era, and you wont have to worry about licenses
They might not hunt you down, but you'll also never have meaningful ownership of your work, no matter how much time and effort you put into it. One consequence is, of course, that the resulting work can never be truly 'open' either, as it doesn't qualify for any open license. People here generally just aren't too interested in doing that.
You zombie looks alot better but still as redshrike stated, you will never have the true ownership of your art. After you are confortable enough, try it from stratch.
FOr my xcom mod, i can live with not owning my work , i had to make it look like the original artwork to match. However i have found i really like doing this stuff so i will need to keep practising to suport this site later.
Yeah, I'm not saying it's not something worth doing--this sort of project can be a lot of fun and build up good skills. I just want to warn you that you're less likely to get people here interested in jumping in for the above reasons.
No problem Redshrike , i was more hoping for tips and advice since i am trying to do them myself, for example I am having alot of trouble getting any Good looking human heads , they all seem wrong so far...
Working on my female civilian now , currently leaving heads off as so far my faces are not so pretty :)
I have created a little website to make downloading my mods for xcom alittle easier , not sure if anyone here is interested but here it is http://openxcommods.weebly.com/
Sorry if this is considered SPAM all my "ART" will end up there.
Now she has a head
