Intro / Project to help students
Hello, firstly I apoligize for the length of this my first post but I want to introduce myself and the project my team and I are working on.
I'm Steven and I was a nerdy kid without many friends. The thing that got me through my teens was visiting my uncle and using his computer to make game projects for my own entertainment, starting back when a thing called GameMaker was a thing (10+ years ago). I did my own art, music, and simple engines (none of them particular noteworthy, but It was fun anyway).
I remember the "friends" i met online, more experienced devs, who helped answer my questions and stuck with me even when i couldn't work out how to use tile sheets :S
Now I'm "grown up" I'm working on a project that aims to teach kids about game and asset development in an interactive and hands on manner. It's based around a platform currently being built that allows them to watch step by step videos and directly work with experienced devs who give small portions of their time.
Unlike mainstream learning platforms that use specific engines and such the platform I'm working on doesn't restrict what "students" can make or how they make it. Whether it be completed games or just developing assets, the platform focuses on encouraging "students" to participate with each other, share content, track progress, and to be actively involved with communities like OGA.
I assembled a small team to build the platform and we have come along way to creating something that "students" will benefit from, but before I can get "students" using the platform I need to reach the goal i set for tutorials and lesson content.
I am seeking devs who are interested in being role models, teachers, and guides who todays budding developers can look back in 10 years and say I got to where I am now because of that guy (or girl :D)
What you would be required to do is provide support and knowledge. To reward devs who help "students" we have weekly giveaways (things like steam credits, hosting packages, advertising, etc.)
If you are interested in being involved you can get more info here in this thread or email dev.connect@outlook.com
Thanks for reading to the end :)
Steven
I find these responses suspicious.
