FLARE [ARCHIVED]

I get no damage

Hi everybody!

I played Flare some years ago and I wanted to start it again. So I installed it on my 64 bit Open Suse Leap 42.3. But I have some problems:

I don't get any damage. Enemies just stand in front of me and do nothing. Even enemies with range weapons. Also the runed chests of Grisbon, Vesuvio and Scathelocke, the spikes in the Ancient Temple and the fireball shooting staute in the Averguard Temple don't harm me. Goblin shamanes don't activate their shields and Antlion blinkers don't teleport.

Cursed graves don't spawn zombies.

The Shield of the mage doesn't appear and the Blood Strike of the brute damages the enemy only once and not several more times within 5 seconds after the hit.

I don't get any information about the rings. For Example, the Lineage Signet Ring just says "+25". I know that it gives you more experience, because I played Flare some years ago.

Little bit strange is, that I installed 1.06,  but in the right upper corner stands "v1.0".

Is there any possibility to fix these problems? I hope somebody can help me.

steve

I just looked at what's available on OpenSUSE Leap 42.3, and the version of Flare there is 0.20 and was packaged 2 years ago. The engine version we printed in-game at that time was "v1.0" despite this. Nonetheless, your engine is vastly out of date. You said you installed 1.06, but it doesn't seem like you did. You have two options if you want to be more up to date:

  • Get our Linux binary package from here (Linux x86_64 engine + game). It's built on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, so your milage may vary on OpenSUSE. Note: if you go this route, it's recommended that you delete ~/.config/flare/keybindings.txt. We had reports of input issues from pre-1.0 configurations and have since fixed it in the development versions.
  • Build it from source yourself. We have instructions for doing this here. The required dependencies for OpenSUSE are listed on that page as well.

The game content you referenced is part of the old Alpha Demo, which is also out of date. You'll want to make sure that you have the empyrean_campaign mod enabled, like so: https://i.imgur.com/UmgvtrG.png

Edit: If you're still interested in playing the Alpha Demo content, we have a v1.0-friendly version of it here.

Hi dorkster!

Thanks for your fast reply.

Get our Linux binary package from here (Linux x86_64 engine + game).

I installed it with the ymp-file you can download from that site, when you click on the link "OpenSUSE" beneath "Other platforms & distributions". But I will try the Linux x86_64 engine, because while uninstalling with Yast, there was written "Flare 0.2". I'm not an expert, so I will need some time.

With the 0.2 - version I tried the empyrean_campaign a bit and had the same issue with the not-attacking enemies.

When I don't get Flare installed with this way, I think I will try it by making a virtual machine with debian.

Hi dorkster!

Finally, I installed Flare manually and it works fine. The version is 1.06, the problems are fixed and there is a nice picture in the background of the menu.

Thank you!
