How to place weapon in hands of animated character

I'm attempting to create some CC licensed pre-rendered isometric sprites for a RTS I am working on. I plan on contributing the sprites I create back to OGA.

My approach for this task has been to download a base mesh from blendswap / OGA, use mixamo's autorigger to rig the character, and then aniamte the character using mixamo's animation library.

I'd like to use animations where the character is holding props, like a gun, but I can't figure out the best way to attach this gun to the character once he's been animated. I don't really chare what program I use to prerender the sprites, although I'm most comfortable using blender since scipts already exist for this task.

Does anyone have any suggestions / ideas on how I can accomplish this task? Again I have no problem getting the character rigged / animated using mixamo, but attaching a rifle to the characters hands is a task I'm not quite sure how to accomplish.

Thanks!

Hi,

you must create a bone for your weapon and connect the bone of the weapon to the bone of the wrist that will be the parent.
