Collaborate with an artist simple HTML5 projects
Hello,
Intro:
I am currently working on a few small HTML5 games with the intention of selling them off to publishers (just like the old flash games used to work). I have been developing the game for a bit now and have all the core mechanics in. I feel however that the time has come for some art to lighten up the game and doesnt' look like a bunch of squares moving around. I have been looking for an artist for a couple of months now and can't find anyone.
The Game:
While I am working on a couple of games at the same time (as I am trying to find an artist), the game I am talking about is a bit similar to Big Fish's Feeding Frenzy if you've ever played. Basically you play a creature that is both the prey and the hunter at the same time that evolves and gets bigger and bigger as he eats smaller creatures. There are bosses you fight and you can evolve yourself.
The type of art I am looking for is either vector art similar to Kingdom Rush for example or the minimalist style. The camera view will be top-down view. However we can think of top view only (similar to Hotline Miami) depending on how good the art will look like.
Compensation:
As you might have guesses, since this is a collaboration, there is no money in advance. Trust me, if I had money to spare on the game development, I would have done so. However, we are going to split the money made from the licenses we sell together. Also as mentioned I am working on a couple of games, so if we work well together (so this could serve as a test for us both and see if we work well together), we can collaborate on the rest of the projects. However, the future ones will be paid a sum upfront and then you'll get a share (unless we sell the first project for a good sum then I can just pay you the whole amount upfront).
What you can expect from me:
- An art list. I'll provide an art list with details enough for you to start working on concepts that can be turned to final in game art.
- Freedom. Aside from a few points I'd like the game to have visually, you are free to do what you want as long as it looks aesthetically good.
- Clear and open line of communication. I prefer to have an open communication channel so that we can exchange information quickly.
- Understanding that this is not paid work so there are no tight obligatory deadlines and no forcing a schedule. However, I'd like to finish the game within 1 month maximum. Like I said, it is a small game, the faster we can finish it, the faster we can get paid.
- Your paid work comes first and so is your life. I can understand of course that part of the deal so I won't even talk about it. However, do understand my position if I find that after a month for example I haven't seen anything from you except a concept drawing that I would tell you this isn't working out and look for someone else.
- Being professional and no drama.
What I am expecting from you:
- You are friendly and professional. I don't care how old you are, but if you act like a kid and in an immature way, we won't be able to work well together.
- You know what you are doing. If not, please let me know and I am willing to explain everything I know about game development and art.
- You can create in-game art and not only concept ar as well as animations. Skeletal or frame by frame doesn't matter at this point we can agree on that later.
- You are a good communicator and don't suddenly disappear for days without notification. I prefer to use something like Slack, Discord, Skype or even Google Hangouts when we talk about the game -- much better than e-mail. However, you aren't forced to be online all the time. On the other hand, if you aren't online please at least reply to an email so if I'd like to get a hold of you to let you know of an update I can do that.
- You are interested in the project. If you dislike the project, you are going to leave at one point or the other. I am not saying be in love with it, I am only saying that you at least find the idea interesting to work on it and don't feel like you are forced to do this.
To get a hold of me, please send a PM and I'll reply back.
Thank you very much in advance!
Sounds fun.
